===================================
Jeffey groaned as he attempted to turn his jar open.
Why wouldn't this thing open?!
It was frustrating seeing how he had been standing here for a total of 45 minutes, and there was 15 minutes left for lunch, and his pasta was still sitting inside a container.
Jeffey felt a vein pop in anger as he tried again to open his jar.
After a few more failed attempts, Jeffey turned back around to see his classmates all sitting at one table laughing in obliviousness. Honestly, he should've turned to his fellow classroom members for help a while ago. But...
It was hard to admit but his pride was bigger than his ego. And their pretty much the same thing. Sometimes, Molly even commented on how big his head was getting due to his large self confidence.
But, he really wanted to eat his delicious looking pasta...
That's it. While shaking his throbbing with pain hand out with one hand holding the warm jar, Jeffey slowly approached his laughing friends.
Honestly, he felt like he'd rather go drown in his (disgusting) brother, Ace's spit.
Ugh. Here we go.
"Hey... Guys?" Jeffey mumbled softly, pushing his jar onto the table.
"What's up, Jeffey." "Yeah, what's cooking?" "You have hotdogs again today? I'm hungry. Or a burrito. I like burritos." "Molly, you've already consumed half of my lunch. I'd feel bad for Jeff. Besides- you ate all of his popcorn today anyways." "... But I'm still hungry." "No."
Jeffey inhaled deeply in impatience. "Okay... Well... Can anyone help me open this?" He asked in a small voice. "WHAT."
Jeffey flinched at the loud chorus of disbelief coming from his classmates. "Woah, did I just hear that right?" Pierre asked. "Jeffey just asked for help. Is the world coming to an end or something?" "Guys, I think my ears are going bonkers- Jeffey just asked help. On opening a jar." "Nah guys. That's not Jeffey. He wouldn't ask for assistance on anything for anything." River piped up before going into full-on throttle of rage mode. "WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT DID YOU DO WITH JEFFEY?"
Jeffey face-palmed. "Oh, shut up. It's me. Now, can someone help me or not?! We have 10 minutes of lunch left, and I'm starving."
Anna Katherine smiled. "Fine. Since you asked nicely, I'll help you." She reached over and grabbed the jar, a grin of accomplishment on her face.
"No!" Just before Anna could try turning, the jar flew out of her hands, and landed in Lauren's possession. "Wha-LAUREN! I was going to open it! Give it back!" Lauren smirked and blew a wet raspberry. "Well too BAD." She grinned and looked at Jeffey. "Watch as the amazing Lauren opens your stupid pasta jar. I'll open this jar so godly you'll forever be in my debt. Watch me."
Jeffey rolled his eyes, as Lauren began her attempt.
Her face changed from withholding a grin, to a look of confusion, to a facial expression of anger, to a look that made Lauren look constipated.
"What. The. HECKKKK!!?!??!" Lauren screamed, holding her aching wrist with her other hand. "Why is this jar not opening?! Did you rig it!? Jeffey you monster! Well, too bad, I'll open it anyways!" Lauren growled, glaring at the jar in challenge. She reached back into her pocket...
...And pulled out a full-fledged hammer.
"HAHHHH!" Gripping the handle of the hammer with both hands, Lauren brought the tool down for the countdown. Jeffey let out a yell, and just in the nick of time, managed to save his lunch from ultimate doom, as he snatched the jar out from underneath the hammer just in time.
"Hey! I was going to open that for you!" Lauren whined in dismay, as Jeffey hugged his food close to his chest. "No! This is my lunch! I want to eat it! Not have it splattered all over the floor with broken glass everywhere-not to mention me ending up cleaning it up." Jeffey growled as he glared at a disappointed Lauren.
"Here-Let me try, Jeffey." "....Anna Katherine Desmund. You promise you won't attack my lunch with a hammer?" "What?! Of course not, Lauren's just an idiot." "HEY!" "Promise you won't use a chainsaw?" "Huh?!" "Or a mallet?!" "What?!" "And you won't pick up the microwave and attack it while it's plugged in so it's microwaving waves will burn the jar so the pasta would end up burning while the jar breaks and the food inside explodes around everywhere on everyone's shir-" "For goodness's sakes, Jeffey--Just give me the jar!"
Slowly, Jeffey scooted the jar across the table--while keeping an eye out for Lauren and her hammer--He gave the jar back to Anna Katherine.
"Thank you. Now, watch and learn, Lauren." Anna grinned, and her face eventually too turned from glee, to confused disbelief, to pain.
"Geez! What is wrong with that thing?!" Anna yelled. "Whaat?! Let me see it here." Ace motioned for the jar and Anna gave it to him. One by one the jar was passed from one classmate to the next (skipping Aria since she was reading).
And unfortunately to Jeffey's dismay; none could open the dreaded jar.
He let out a wail in tire. "Ughhhh!" "Sorry, Jeffey.... We couldn't open it." River mumbled as he shook out his hand in pain.
"It's fine." He sighed. And luckily at around that time- Aria had finished her book. "Wow! That was great! I didn't expect Ares to-Woah, what'd I miss? Is it time for Spanish already? And here I thought it was Monday. Isn't Espanol on Thursday afternoon?" "Aria it's still Monday." "Oh. Then why is everyone so depressed. Oh! Did it have something to do with me using up all the butter for my science experiment?" "No-WAIT. Aria, you used up all the butter?! We were going to bake tomorro-Argh. Nevermind. We just can't open a jar."
Aria deadpanned. "You're depressed over a jar? And here I thought my brother was a wimp for crying over his blanket disappearing and ending up on the side of his bed. Let me see it." Aria grabbed the jar. And by holy gracious- it popped open at her touch.
"What. How. Why." "Not possible." "All hail the sarcastic jar king." "But she's a girl..." "No-if she can beat me in dodgeball she's not classified as a female." "Ouch. Sore loser." "Can I have some of that pasta, Jeffey?" "Not the time, Molly. We gotta figure out how Aria can open jars."
Aria held up her hands. "It's just one of those jars where you have to push the lid to open it. See?!" To make her point, she held out the jar to show.
Some things are just more simple than you think.
