Chapter Two

2) Summer Break

"Hip hip hurray!" My twin brother shouts.

It's summer break. We'll be going into fourth grade, but not yet. First, we have summer break. I got Ms. Williams for fourth grade. Ryan got Ms. Bennett. I heard from Kayla that Ms. Williams is nice, so that's something to look forward to. She also told us Ms. Bennett is really mean and super strict. Kayla is going into sixth grade. Wow, is she big?

Just then, my friend Rebecca rings the doorbell. Ding Dong. My mom answers it. The next thing I know, Rebecca is standing at my room doorway. She walks in, her shoes tapping against the hardwood floor.

"Who do you have for fourth grade?" She asks.

"Ms. Williams," I answer.

"Who does your brother have?"

"Ms. Bennett. Who do you have?"

"Ms. Williams," she says.

"Yay!" I shout. "We're in the same class!"

"This is amazing," Rebecca breathes. "Nancy has her too."

Wow. Two of my best friends. "Do you know anyone else?" I ask.

"Jordan said July did, but I'm not that certain she's telling the truth."

"What about Maya and Julie?" I ask.

"I haven't heard from them yet," Rebecca answers.

"Want a snack?" Mom asks, coming in. "I have cupcakes."

"Sure," me and Rebecca say in unison. We follow her into the kitchen, where Ryan is sitting down with a vanilla cupcake in front of him.

We each grab a cupcake. I baked them myself just last week.

I play with Rebecca for the longest time, and then she finally goes home for dinner.

During dinner, we talk about summer plans and stuff like that. After dinner, Ryan and I help mom do the dishes. I go upstairs to take a shower, thinking about the fun summer in front of me.
