A Spark of Hope

The next morning he woke up extremely sore and thirsty. His arms and stomach were bandaged up.

He slowly sat up wincing.

Lisa was fast asleep, her head lying next to his arm and the shotgun clutched close to her.

He brushed his hand across her face, tucking a strand of her hair behind her ear before he realized what he did.

The dark marks under her eyes confirmed what he was thinking. She had to be up all night and she looked completely exhausted.

Dave stood up and stretched before he bent and picked her up. He tried to take the gun from her but she wouldn't let go.

Lisa, Lisa let go of the gun love, he said shaking her lightly. She released it and opened her eyes squinting up at him before she started to struggle.

Calm down, it's only me he said soothingly.

She blinked a few times trying to get the sleep out her eyes. You're okay, she said touching his cheek.

I told you so.

Your rib.

 Already healed.

What about the bodies, she said yawning.

Don't worry about that, you rest.

 Okay.

"No arguments"? he asked with a raised brow

Too tired, she said laying her head on his shoulder.

He brought her back to his room and gently laid her on his bed before walking out and closing the door behind him.

His first task was to get rid of the three bodies in his house and then get back to Lisa, he still had a lot to explain to her.

Sigh, its times like these that I'm glad I don't belong to a pack, he thought silently.

He would also have to give the old woman a visit after disposing of the bodies.

She lived in the deepest part of the forest where very few venture. She was a witch gifted with many abilities.

Dave found her sitting in her favorite chair calmly staring into a cup of tea. For a moment he thought she was in one of her trance-like states until she spoke.

I knew you were going to come, she said keeping her focus on the teacup.

Good, then you know why I'm here.

"Why haven't you mated her yet"?

 He frowned at her.

 She doesn't belong to me.

Sigh, you are as stubborn as your father you know that.

The reason I came was to see if I can get some of those herbs I asked for last time.

The pills I got from a friend apparently aren't strong enough he said fidgeting. So I was hoping you could give me some herbs or something.

The old woman turned to watch him.

The more you try to separate from her the worst that feeling is going to be.

I told you someone special was coming your way. Don't run away from your blessing, embrace it.

Besides you never know how long you'll live to enjoy them.

He stopped pacing to look at her.
