"The dark thoughts that once filled my head were replaced with a silly man, who, oddly enough, made me feel safer in three days that I ever have my entire life."

Mark didn't know why, but he felt very, very close to Jack. He couldn't figure out why, but he felt like they've known each other for years, but they only just met that last weekend. Mark just couldn't figure it out. He feels like he had to be do loyal to Jack, like the silly, green-haired Irishman was his savior.

And, maybe that's exactly what Jack was, a savior.

Both of them knew what a one night stand meant, but, for some strange reason, they chose to stay together. They chose to stay as if they had a bond between them just made in one night. One drunken night.

Mark had no clue if he had said anything to Jack about his past that night, but he didn't think he did. Jack didn't seem like he was doing anything out of pity, and that was the last thing the red head wanted. He absolutely hated pity.

As Jack woke up the next morning, he was tempted to shoot Mark a text, but strayed away from the idea because it was a bit to early. Instead, he simply got ready to leave for work, continuing his day with Mark filling up his every thought.

"I really have fallen hard, haven't I?" Jack chuckled to himself.

"Mark, what the hell?" Amy screamed at him, seeing that he had forgotten to fold her laundry. "I fucking ask you to do one thing!" And with that, she hit and yelled at him.

He felt worthless. She made him feel worthless. And, half the time she didn't actually hurt him physically, but mentally, Mark felt broken.

He had loved this woman at one point. He swore he'd do anything for her, but he knew he didn't mean it.

He always did have a feeling that something would go wrong.

And, one morning, it really did go to hell.

She came home, in a better mood than normal. He was a bit confused as to why, she normally yelled at him for something when she got home, but she didn't.

"Hey, Mark, wanna watch a movie with me?" She said, plopping on the couch. Mark couldn't resist, as it had been forever since they enjoyed a movie together, or anything for that matter.

She then started to tease him during the film, watching as he tried to hold back small moans. Once the movie had ended, the quickly went to the bedroom and made love, but Mark felt like something was off.

He didn't feel the connection between them anymore, but he still loved her, so it had to be her. Maybe she didn't love him anymore.

And Mark woke up alone to Amy's phone ringing and her not around to get it, so he does.

"Hey, baby, I was wondering if you wanted to swing by tonight and have a good time again. Thursday was a ton of fu--" Mark ended the call abruptly. He didn't know who it was, but he was hurt.

Amy had cheated on him. The one girl he loved even though she yelled at him and hit him. The one person he could be himself around, well, before she abused him.

    Mark wanted to scream

She had cheated on him, and it hurt.

He didn't see her that day.

The next morning, he woke up with a note on his nightstand.

   "Mark,

I'm sorry, I had loved you, but, sadly, I lost it. I found someone else recently and I've decided I'd be happier with them. I hope you don't mind.

    -Amy"

"I hope you don't mind..." He shakily  repeats, slowing beginning to cry.

Her admitting to cheating just made it worse because now he can't deny it.

After that, Mark spent his Fridays at the bar, flirting here and there, but never taking it further than that. Not until Jack.

Mark fell in love with Jack by simply looking into his crystal blue eyes, drowning the fiery red head in a sea of calmness and security.

Mark recalled his last relationship. Amy had hurt him countless times, but if she hadn't, he wouldn't have met someone he could literally get lost in.

Jack was all Mark could think about. Mark loved his green hair, his oceanic eyes, and he found his Irish accent so adorable.

But, Mark was scared, terrified, in fact.

"I don't want to fall in love again..." He let out a sigh,  "I don't want to get hurt again..."

Mark's phone then buzzed. It was a text from Jack.

Hey! Wanna come over and grab a bite to eat?

"I can't... I can't fall in love..." Mark teared up, knowing that his heart said to chase after Jack, but his brain told him to not even bother.

And he chose to follow his heart, as he suddenly remembered what he had promised Jack.

    "I won't hurt you again."

His own words echoed in his head, tormenting him. He didn't want to hurt Jack, he hated the feeling he had when Amy left him, so he didn't want to leave Jack.

But, honestly, he had doubt written all over his face.

Jack sat patiently, waiting for a reply, then his phone buzzed.

    Sure

Jack couldn't help but feel like something was wrong. The lack of punctuation and emojis or anything to give the text life was screaming that Mark was upset.

"Maybe he doesn't really want to come...?" Jack couldn't help but think, but thirty long minutes later, Mark was in Jack's apartment, sitting at the small table as Jack finished up cooking.

And, Mark was glad he came. He felt at peace with Jack. His whole apartment had a serene feel to it, making Mark feel safe.

Mark knew what would have happened if he would have stayed home. The seemingly happy red head did stupid stuff when he was lonely and more than a little sad.

"He really is my savior, isn't he?" Mark smiled to himself as he watched Jack cook.
