Hello there! This is Scarlet from Break The Clichés and I am happy to say that I'm going to be interviewing you for our Interview book! Thank you for your cooperation! Please reply when possible!
Hello Scarlet, thank you for taking your time to message me!
No problem! So my first question for you is,
When And Why Did You Start Writing?I started writing in Arabic at the age of 13-14, mainly short paragraphs and thoughts. Then, with time I got interested in French so I started writing a book in French ( sadly, it's still incomplete due to my lost of interest ). I write short things in English too, but I never thought of reading an English book because when I tried it, I didn't understand almost anything. But I continued reading until I started having book ideas and I found it easier and lovely to write in English for me since it was my favorite subject in school ( I don't natively speak English ). Yeah, anyways, that's how I starting reading more until I had the ability to write a long thing with acceptable vocabulary. At the age of seventeen, I decided to finally start Valencia.
I hope this isn't so long XD.
No, that's fine. I don't really mind the size of your paragraphs!
Where Did You Get The Idea For Valencia?Oh phew :')Oh, well that's an easy question. I first wrote The Beginning with no purpose, I just wanted a sad scene. Then I thought about making of it the beginning of a book. I asked my friends one question: "What's the most horrible thing to happen to a person?" And well, I made a list. After that, ideas just came... I still change a lot of the plans because you know, when you write and then find yourself wanting something else, you go for it. 😀
That's a great strategy!
What Clichés Did You Break In Valencia, And Why?That's a hard question *think*... Well in Valencia I wanted to break something mainly (I don't know if it's cliché or not) and it led to breaking the cliché. I wanted to show no one is perfect, every single person, even the book characters have flows... To add to it, it's really rare to have someone sacrificing something big for your happiness, it's nearly impossible... Sadly nowadays people thing that the prince charming who'll sell his life in order to make yours better is everywhere, which is wrong... Plus, come on, it's not always about bad boys and bad or good girls, life is much deeper than that. And to be honest, when you have so much going on in your life, you can't just forget about it and focus on your love life... like the clichés... And well , I guess something else, why not think about a more interesting life (for the main character) than just dead parents or her facing bullying, not that it doesn't matter but why not take in consideration the other struggles and pain... I guess those are the most important points heh :)
Yes, there are many misrepresentations about Prince Charming always being there to sweep you off your feet.
What are some writing traps that you fell into while writing? How did you overcome them?
Totally! Of course as every single writer, I sometimes fall into the cliché-book trap... since it's the easiest way to think and write about :) Also the writer's block... To be honest I'm having a terrible one right now and I have no idea how to overcome it, but I will. Let's not forget the grammar mistakes that I still didn't overcome yet, and it needs so much effort...
Well, there's no need to sweat that. It's a common thing all writers face, even if you've had years of experience. And you can also get someone to help you with the grammar mistakes!
Can't deny, every single writer faces that, and it's actually a necessity because it helps you think harder about all the book events and future actions! :) And well for the grammar I tried, and I'm still looking for the help, but I'll focus more on that once I finish the book :)
What Did You Find Special About Your Idea For Valencia?
I said this is one chapter but I'll say it again. Do you know why I named my character Valencia? I searched for a name for the longest time and I found the name Valencia which means 'brave'. The character so far is a complicated person; you can never understand her, if she's a coward or brave. The special thing about my idea of Valencia is that the reader is going to find a little bit of 'Valencia' in each character. And the special thing about my book is the plot twists. Even though I haven't made any plot twist yet, the principal one is gonna hurt so many souls.
Sounds juicy!
What Technique Helped You Write Better And/Or Faster? To write better, I had to read more and feel the book more. As for to write faster, I just had to listen to good music and feel myself get into the mood of writing! :)
Same here! Classical music works best for me.
Music with lyrics help me.😀
Did Valencia Have Any Impact On Your Life?
Of course, it has a big impact on my life... the way I think... I feel... I act.... It showed me things I never knew about myself and the way my mind works. It helped me understand people more and do everything deeper than I used to. 😀 Valencia in a way represents my messed up mind.
I agree, our writing style resembles a small part of ourselves. I personally use writing to escape my not so fabulous reality! 😄 All in all, it is a great emotional outlet.
Yea, writing really helps get way form the 'oh so amazing' life :')
Do you have any tips or inspiration for aspiring authors?
Never give up on your ideas! Your book always represents a part of you, of your thoughts and your ideas! Don't give up on it. You may not find the right person to encourage you or a lot of readers to push you into writing more, but that doesn't mean what you're writing isn't worth it. Believe in yourself and don't be afraid of the critics and judgements, there is always space for haters *wink* but don't let that be the reason for you to back off. Take your inspiration from life, from what you see and what you feel, from your fears and your struggles. Be the mirror of the the scared souls and muted hearts! And always keep your writing meaningful, with a message to get.
Wow! That's a wonderful message!
This has been a great interview! Thanks again for your time! I wish you the best as a writer!
