Rejecting The Beta
I woke up late the next morning. Ace and I talked the whole night. It was good to talk to him after so many days. I was really in need of a friend and he was the best guy for that. He was now more powerful. He was an Alpha and he had promised me that he will fix everything and that I can come and meet him anytime.
I quickly dressed up and headed downstairs to see if I could get something to eat.
It was ten in the morning and by now everybody would have had breakfast.
I reached the dining room and saw no one. Guess, I would have to make something for myself. I opened the fridge and found it empty. Not a thing. What the hell?
Then, I heard the sound of television in the drawing room. As far as I know, dad would be busy with work, my brother would be at the training, Mary would be with mum, helping at the pack house and that left one person...
Ethan.
Probably, he was eating up all my food in there?
Maybe, we could share?
My stomach growled.
Forget sharing. I'll snatch, if I needed to.
When I reached the drawing room, my mouth fell open. I didn't expect to see this. Forget my growling stomach.
"I missed you so much, Thea." I heard Ethan whisper, kissing the girl on her cheek.
"I missed you too." The girl whispered back.
I had to hold the door from preventing myself from collapsing. Why did it feel so bad? I thought I was Ethan's mate? And even if I disappointed him yesterday, he can't do this to me. No. He should reject me first. But, somehow the thought of him rejecting me, pained me. May be it was because of my wolf.
To avoid seeing any further, I turned on my feet rather ungracefully and as I was hurrying to get out of there, I tripped because of the bloody carpet.
What a great time to trip Jez.
Not only that, as I fell on my stomach, my hand slammed on the vase nearby and it came toppling down on the floor. Thank the Goddess that the glass fell far away from me.
I cursed, as Ethan and the girl came running towards me.
"Oh my god, Jez, are you okay?" Ethan came running towards me, worry spread all over his face.
False worry.
He helped me get up, but I jerked my hand away from his grasp. A flicker of emotion crossed his face and the girl looked back and forth between us.
"Sorry to disturb you two. I was just passing by." I spoke bitterly.
Ethan creased his eyebrows.
As I started to leave, the girl came in my way.
"I am Thea. Ethan's sister." She held her hand out.
What?
She was his sister?
And I thought...
How crazy, Jezebel. What have you become?
"H-hi." I muttered, ashamed of myself. I couldn't find myself to meet her gaze.
"You've got a beautiful mate, brother." She exclaimed.
However, Ethan didn't say anything.
Did she not know about our...situation?
My stomach growled again.
Jeez. I had to do something.
"I am sorry about the food, i was really hungry when I got here." Thea explained and I blushed.
Of course, she was a she-wolf and she could hear my stomach growl.
"I am going to go to the pack house and bring you food, Jezebel," Thea said warmly.
"Uh no. I can bring-"
"You both stay here, I will be right back."
And with that, Thea sped off.
Awkward moments. Here they come.
"Sorry about that," Ethan said.
"No, it's okay..." I said, a little too quickly.
"Umm...I'll make a coffee till she gets back...." I paused, "would you like to join?"
"Of course." He replied and smiled.
Most charming smile, I have ever seen.

After Thea brought me some food, we spent some time together. And, it felt good to have a "girl talk" after such a long time. I needed a break from boys.
As we were talking, Ethan interrupted out of nowhere.
We had completely forgotton that he was actually there.
"Umm... Jez, can I talk to you for a minute?"
It looked urgent.
"Of course."
As he led me outside the room, I felt sweat cover my hands. He was making me nervous. Was he fed up of me and was going to reject me? Or was he going to forcefully kiss me again? I don't know.
We came to a halt infront of my room.
"You need to know something about my sister, Jezbel..." Ethan muttered, grimly.
"Um...what?" I asked confused.
"She....well," Ethan was struggling for words, "she can read minds."
"What?" I gasped.
She would have known everything about me from the moment she saw me.
Crap!
"Don't worry... she can do it only if she holds your hand or touches your skin in a way." he said.
A part of me felt relieved.
But why was he telling me this? He could have used this to his advantage and asked his sister to invade my mind and my feelings for him.
"Why did you tell me?" I whispered, not able to stop my heart from fluttering with delight.
He gave me a confused look.
"You could have known about what I thought about us..." I said.
"I...," he seemed lost for words, "I want my mate to express her feelings to me, herself. Not with the help of a mind reader."
He was such a good person. He didn't deserve me as a mate. He deserved a mate, who could give him enough love and respect and he needs to know that.
"You deserve better than me." I said, honestly.
He just shook his head and planted a kiss on my forehead.
"I can wait for what's mine." He whispered.
When he pulled back, I was left dumbstruck. I didn't know what to say. Heck, I didn't know what to feel. I just stared into his green eyes. This person here, infront of me is... really great. With a great heart, I may add. I felt ashamed. I wanted to break down right there and then. Why? Why can't I shift right now and finally decide what to do!
And suddenly, a voice in my head said, "I am coming, Ryder," and I fell down on the floor, pain engulfing me completely.
I was shifting.
