Beth's POV
The next morning I wake up surprisingly at normal time. It's eight thirty when I look at the alarm clock at my bedside table and my eyes widen in shock. I'm completely surprised that I haven't woken up from a nightmare. My body isn't sweating and my heart is only beating quickly because I'm happy; Happy that the nightmares might be gone at least.
I smile to myself and get out of my bed. My feet are cold against the floor when my feet leave the fuzzy rug. I walk over to the closet, the large set of clothing that isn't my style still in view. I push past all of them to reach the shelf behind. I pull out a pair of jean shorts and a black tank top and underwear to take a shower.
The hot water relaxes my tense muscles and my head is still pounding a bit from the impact last night. I feel a little dizzy but not as much as last night so I'm hoping that my vision will return normal in just a few short hours.
When I leave the bathroom I hear rummaging of pots and pans falling onto the floor. Drawers and cabinets are being slammed shut. Curious of what is happening, I walk downstairs to see my mother on her knees digging through the variety cooking utensils.
"Morning." She tells me. She hasn't even seen my come in she she must have heard me.
"Good morning." I say back and sit on the stool beside me.
She groans and stands off of the floor. "I'm trying to get rid of most of this crap." She starts to pull her hair in a ponytail.
"Why would you want to get rid of all of our pots and pans?" I ask while taking an apple from the fruit basket.
She places her hands on her hips and blows the hair away that has fallen onto her face. "Well," she begins and takes another deep breath. "I hired a maid."
"What?"
"I hired a maid." She repeats. "Her name is Gloria and she has all new supplies for the house."
"We don't need a maid." I stand from the stool. Letting my apple fall from my hands and it rolls a little onto the marble table.
"We do." She says "I'm in and out of the house. I barely have time to clean and-"
"I'm eighteen." I cut her off. "I can clean myself. And we don't need to waste money on something so pointless to have."
"It's not a waste of money, Bethany."
"There's no reason to have someone here." I remind her and she looks away. "Oh I get it." I say in realization.
"Get what?"
" Gloria." I air quote it. "She's more like my babysitter, am I right?"
She doesn't say anything.
I didn't want to start another argument with my mother but her actions are getting way too extravagant. She treats me like I'm five and I can't keep dealing with it.
"That's not true." She says after a while.
"Then tell her not to come here. Tell her we don't need her anymore." I grab the apple from the table and throw it into the trash, my appetite has vanished.
"I can't."
"Why not?"
"She'll be here in about an hour, Bethany just stop." She holds her hand up. "I'm not the one who needs to be questioned right now."
I tug my hair behind my ear and swallow hard. "What do you mean?"
"there is a bruise on your head; which tells me you weren't just with Abby last night, am I right?." She points and I Touch my forehead, the sting feeling makes me pull away fast and scrunch my face up in pain.
