1. The Death of a Great Man

Lydia's POV
As the casket drifted down the isle of mourners, I cried.

It seemed just yesterday that Uncle Bang was with me in the music room, affectionately dancing and singing with me as I laughed.

Now with him gone, I felt at a loss, crumpling and wringing the paper in my hand. I was asked to give a speech, an offer I decided to accept. I wanted to express my appreciation for all that he'd done, though putting pen to paper wasn't easy. After hours, I felt only mediocre about the finished product. There was no way to show what he truly meant to me through a few brief words.

I talked to no one at the party, and everyone acted as though I wasn't there. When it came time to give the speech, I completed it with an even tone, as Uncle had taught me to do.

But inside I was broken.

I hid away as soon as I finished in order to let my tears fall.

He's gone, I told myself.

My heart fell, and I collapsed into a mess of sobs.

Jungkook's POV

We were all present for the boss's funeral. The somber environment thickened around us. J-Hope was the worst off of us all, going through box after box of tissues steadily as the funeral progressed.

The dark mood wasn't a surprise. We all were close to President Bang. He was the one that promised us before our debut that he would help us reach our goal of becoming an established idol group. He continued to believe in us and fulfilled his promise. He was a great man.

I looked up as girl walked up onto the stage to give the final speech. It was an important role, but I didn't recognize her. It seemed only Namjoon knew who she was.

"His niece," he explained quietly. "He spent a lot of time with her. Apparently he told her everything. Sometimes she even knew release plans before the managers and artists themselves."

I listened surprisingly intently and soon the speech ended. You could tell she loved him dearly. Her voice was controlled yet enveloped in an almost suffocating sadness. Something about her words spoke past her neat dress and blank face.

How she could hold her sadness in without shedding a single tear, while nearly everyone's streamed down their cheeks by the end of the speech, no one could tell.

She was strong. And I was in awe.
