2. A Parting Gift

Lydia's POV
I'm alone in the music room. My fingers glide across keys, playing the notes that embodied my grieving emotions. The piano was my outlet, at this moment this song was my story. These were notes that would be played once and go unrecorded, unremembered. This is what music did for me; it was my only lasting relief.

"--Lydia...LYDIA!" I jumped taking off the headphones that had been connected to the piano.

"Yes?"

"Someone came in for you."

"Who?" Who's looking for me? Why so suddenly?

"Your uncle's lawyer," was the reply.

••••••••••••••••••••

"Hello?" I entered the room apprehensively.

"Are you Ms. Lydia Seo?"

"Yes, that would be me," I replied, my confusion rising. What does Uncle's lawyer want with me?

"I suppose I'll get straight to the point. As of now, Big Hit Entertainment is owned by you," the lawyer replied.

"What?!!" I shouted incredulously, unable to hold back my astonishment.

"Yes. Though there will be quite a bit of paperwork, Bang Si-Hyuk left you as his 'successor' to the company within his will."

Unable to answer I sat there gaping at the lawyer as he pulled out a few papers and handed them to my dazed form.

"Here is a copy of the will and a letter Mr. Bang left for you. Both were written years ago."

I opened the letter instantly, groping for an answer to my confusion.

Dear Lydia,

I don't know when you're getting this, but you must be quite shocked. I've finally made up my mind. After Big Hit Entertainment started taking off I knew I had to have a plan in case something ever happened to me. But I didn't know who to leave it to; a person whom I trusted enough to leave the blood, sweat, and tears of me and all my artists to. Then, you entered my life. Losing your parents was the saddest day of my life, but it was also one of the best days of my life, because it was the day that brought me you. Within a year after, I was certain. With your love for music that flowed from your heart to the tips of your fingers, I knew you had the talent and passion for running Big Hit if I'm ever unable to. From this day forward, I'm training you with the intent that you'll someday take over this company. There's no one else I'd rather leave this to. I trust you to lead Big Hit into a higher level of talent and new era of success. With this, I trust my artists and trainees to you, along with the responsibility of earning the respect you deserve for abilities I believe you will discover within you.

Without regrets,
Bang Si-Hyuk

I fold the letter and check the date. It was written five years ago?! What in the world?

Memories come flowing back. Not only did Uncle teach me composition and choreography skills, but his strange side lessons suddenly made sense.

Every time there was a good audition or audition that was close and difficult to decide, he brought it to me to ask my opinion. Together, we analyzed it and reached a decision.

He taught me interesting tricks about how he dealt with the overwhelming press and often insisted I attend some of his press conferences and interviews under the pretense he was short on staffers that passed out water bottles.

He interacted cordially with his artists and taught me proper customs by showing me how he encouraged them, as well as demanded more from me when I was given chance to improve.

Among many skills, however, he had never alluded to running a company. Thus in this sense, I was clueless.

However his favorite tip echoed in my mind:
"Even if you don't know what your doing, make them think you do. Then you have time to calmly figure out how to succeed. Don't dwell on your inabilities. Confidence can be your greatest aide and ally."

Uncle had put too much faith in me for me to be slacking now. There was no time for indecision. It was time to learn how operate a company.

I was going to bring Big Hit and its artists to the top of the charts both in Korea and internationally.

Jungkook's POV

"Ya! Jungkookie, wake up!" Shouted Jimin as he jumped onto the bed on top of me.

"Hyung, I just fell asleep..." I mumbled as I used a pillow to try to block him out. Even after President Bang died, our schedules were incredibly hectic. All I wanted was a small nap.

"No can do. We have to attend a meeting." Jimin took the pillow and hit me with it.

"What meeting?" I grumbled?

"The new president called one."

"What?" I sat up, now completely awake. They've already found a new president? Who is it? I knew we needed someone new after President Bang died, but I didn't know it would be this soon. Though it was much better than having to close down the company, I wasn't sure I was ready to record under someone new.

"They say the rest will be explained at the meeting," Jimin explained, glad that I was finally up. "Now get dressed in something more suitable. With that, he walked out.

I sighed, not knowing what to feel. I grabbed a collared shirt and a simple pair of dress pants from my closet, then followed him out.

Time to meet my new boss.
