"NO! It can't be possible! Doctor Sy, please! I'll do anything! Please! Can't you do anything for her? Please! I- I'd pay you for how much- how much do you want, Doctor? Please! I don't want my-"
With a heavy heart, the doctor placed his hand on the father's shoulder. He was heartbroken to see Mr. Lee crying and trashing about. It was the scene that kept playing inside his head for days now. He was afraid on how the girl's father would handle the news. However, as a doctor, he had no choice to inform the father on his daughter's current situation, no matter how painful it would be.
"I wish I could, sir. I really do. But blindness is something we cannot cure. I've done everything." he said, his voice laced with sadness yet mainting its professional tone.
Mr. Kim could do nothing but to cry. Everything, all his regrets, all the broken promises, all the pain and suffering his daughter had to go through, he poured everything in his tears.
"Oh my sweet, little angel. " he whispered sadly to the air as the memories from before came rushing through his mind.
"Appa!"
Mr. Kim's eyes sparkled ever so brightly as he watched his daughter, in a beautiful peach gown. He teared up a little, seeing that his sweet girl has already grown up into a beautiful young lady.
"Oh, Saena-yah. What are you up to today? "
His lovely little angel, Lee Saena, brought light to his dark, suffocating world since the day her wretched parents gave her to him. Every time she would call him her father made his heart flutter. Her simple yet captivating smile alone was enough to bring him back from the deep abyss which he was sucked in to long before.
"Ey, Appa! It's my eighteenth birthday today! Didn't I tell you I'd go out with my friends today? "
"You are? Ah yes, love. I remember now! But where are you going? "
She smiled and placed her finger in front of her lips.
"It's a secret Appa! Anyway, I'll return before it gets dark. I can't have my father miss out this day! " she said happily and kissed her father's cheek.
"Oh, sweetheart. You don't need to go home so early! It's your first day as an adult and I understand if -"
"Nonsense Appa! You can't stop me anyway. See you later!" she said brightly once again.
Mr. Kim smiled and watched his daughter walk away. Suddenly, his attention was stolen by a flickering light bulb inside their house.
He sighed and tended to the light bulb. He made some quick twist and turns and finally, fixed the light once again.
If only all things that gave him light were fixed as easily as that.
"Oh, Saena-yah. If Appa would have known that you'd end up hurting yourself, I shouldn't have let you go that day. " he whimpered and held his daughter's small hand. He glanced up again and saw his daughter's once flawless face marred with ugly scars.
It has been two weeks since she was hospitalized. It has also been two weeks since the doctors told him that she might be diagnosed with blindness. Since then, she still hasn't woke up.
