Jamie had come to enjoy Raphael's company and they had ended up going out for drinks every week. It had been a long time since he'd last liked someone that much. Unfortunately, they were only friends. He didn't even think Raphael was gay or bisexual. No, he seemed straight as a board. It was really a shame, for Raphael would make a good boyfriend.
It had taken him a while to come to terms with his feelings but now, he understood that what he felt toward Raphael wasn't a simple friendship. Guessing how disgusted Raphael would be, had he known about it, Jamie had decided to lock his feelings away and hide them from everyone.
He was on his way to meet Raphael again. He'd found a new pub earlier that week and wanted to try it with him.
It was already dark. The streets were empty, with most people having gone home for the day and leaving only a few alcoholics wandering outside. He preferred staying at home during late night hours but he'd made an exception this time.
Walking on the sidewalk, Jamie avoided all eye contact with the passersby. Drunks tended to get triggered at the most trivial things and Jamie didn't need any drama. Not when he was only out to have fun.
The people walking past him had many similarities. They wore mostly ragged clothes that had probably never been kissed by a detergent. Their foul odor could be smelled miles away. One person, in particular, smelled really bad. He reeked of ammonia from stale piss and rotten eggs. It was unbearable and Jamie had to look up to see for himself who this despicable human with practically no knowledge of hygiene practice was.
Jamie stopped dead in his tracks. His eyes went wide as they landed on the right shoulder of the man. What the fuck is that?
Sitting on the shoulder was a black ball with six tentacles that were tightly gripping onto the clothes. In the center of the ball was a big hole, a mouth, with tiny little teeth, lined up in two rows. No eyes.
Jamie tried to tell himself it was only a toy, a stuffed toy of some sort, but then the mouth on the ball split into a wide grin and it ignited itself, starting from the center, spreading out quickly until its whole body caught fire. Blue flickering flames enveloped it, turning its surface into a glowing ember with blazing ash floating around like snowflakes in the wind.
Surprisingly, it hadn't affected the person, on whose shoulder the thing was perched. There were no signs of burning flesh or anything. No sizzling sounds nor screams of pain. Then, without a warning, the guy dropped down to the ground with a thud. Jamie noticed blood sneaking out from under the body and spreading out on the cold ground, darkening it with its color, not stopping until it had formed a puddle.
Freaked out, Jamie swiftly turned on his heel and hightailed it out of there.

He was late. Again. Jamie had an interesting habit of being late every time they met. It could be anything from a mere second to half an hour. Raphael wondered how long it would take him this time and what the reason behind it would be. They both knew that the stories with which Jamie came up were mostly lies but that didn't prevent Jamie from continuing doing so.
He checked his watch and it was already ten minutes past the agreed time. Although he had gotten used to waiting for Jamie, Raphael was still a busy man and there were matters he needed to attend to back at the coven.
Just as he was about to get up and go back, he saw Jamie running toward him.
Jamie stopped in front of him and bent slightly at the waist, with his hand on his chest, he tried to calm his breathing. He was panting heavily from exhaustion, his clothes and hair were in disarray.
