It has been two days since I went rogue. It's been a change, but I like it. The woods are liberating me, and the feeling I get from the wind rushing through my fur is refreshing. I've been running almost non-stop at a steady pace, not fast but not slow. Anything could catch up to me.
At this particular moment, I was sitting in a clearing, admiring the beautiful day given to the woods I was in and making something with the grass. I wasn't sure exactly what, but I really didn't care.
"Freeze!" A voice sounded out from behind me. I turned around. There was a man standing a few feet away from me. He wasn't in wolf form, and there was one guard with him.
"Am I on your territory?" I asked, giving the man my full attention. He had purple eyes, but I couldn't tell if they were contacts or natural. Black hair fell over his forehead and looked messy on purpose. He had an air about him, but I could tell it was not of an Alpha. My guess is Beta.
"Yes. The guards saw you on their patrol. What is your name?"
I was hesitant. Having a family like mine, it's hard to trust anyone.
He could tell. Sitting down next to me on the grass where I had been admiring nature minutes before, I scooted away from him.
"I'm Ricky, nice to meet you..." He stuck out his hand and gave me a smile that looked genuine.
I stared at it for a moment, then snaked out mine to meet his.
"J.T.," Just in case, I didn't want him knowing my real identity just yet.
"Well, welcome to the Blood Red pack."
"T-the Blood Red pack?" My eyes almost popped out of my head in surprise.
"Yes, but I don't know what you heard about us. We aren't a cruel pack, even though we are the strongest and biggest pack in America. Ashe is our Alpha, and I'm the beta. Ashe is on his way."
I nodded.
"So, the way we have gotten so big is not through conquering, but rather being a quite peaceful pack. We only defend if someone hits us first. We also help other packs out frequently by sending our best warriors to offer temporary protection. We also allow rogues to enter into our pack whenever we catch them on our land. We of course monitor them at first, but after a while they are fully integrated into our pack."
I started to catch on, "Does that mean...?""Yes. I am offering you the same opportunity. Only if you want it, of course. Ashe should be here soon."
"Uhm... Ok," I so badly wanted to tell him about my old pack, but I don't think I can trust them just yet.
Suddenly, a wolf that was gray and white burst through the bushes surrounding the clearing Ricky and I were in. I immediately cowered to the ground, my mind thinking it was Cole or Evie. I peeked through my hands after a few moments of silence to see Ricky and the wolf looking at each other with concern. The figure started to shift and I looked away.
"You can look now," A new voice said.
Now there were three men in front of me. The new person had purple eyes like Ricky's, but blonde hair. It was styled in a quiff, and his air was almost non existent but very powerful.
"You're the Alpha." I said, clutching my bookbag.
"I'm Ashe. Ricky briefed you didn't he?" Ashe wasn't unkind, but serious at this moment. He seemed very rigid and forced. A sense of diplomacy surrounded him.
"You don't like rogues don't you?" I asked, standing up.
"So I take it you want to join our pack?" Ricky picked up the conversation by answering my question with a question as Ashe stared me down. For some reason, I wasn't really intimidated.
