The boy lunged forward, taking Noah off his feet. He fell hard on the road and hit his head. He blinked the dizziness out of his eyes as the boy landed on his stomach. Noah gasped, clutching for air while trying to keep his food in his stomach. "You didn't even think to test what I controlled, did you?"
Noah coughed, recovering from the shock of another energy controller. "I...thought you were...a light con...controller."
The boy jumped slightly and his butt landed on Noah's stomach. Noah tasted an unpleasant mix of three day old leftovers and stomach acid. He swallowed it back down as a field of energy surrounded them. Noah saw his friends out of the corner of his eye. They had gotten out of the cars and were attacking the field with everything they had. "I'm Dominic." The boy, Dominic, held out his hand for Noah to shake.
Noah looked at the hand and then at the face of the boy offering it. He clasped it tightly in his hand and felt all the power the boy had. Noah took a deep breath. "Just tell me one thing...If you can't control light, how did you hide from us while we focused on your friends?"
"They weren't my friends. They were just others that the Master sent with me."
"That doesn't answer the question."
"You're not the only one with a plan, Noah."
"That's all I needed to know." Dominic's hand still firmly grasped in his, Noah took the energy he felt. It surged into him but at the same time he felt energy leaving him. It was a cycle that passed through their hands.
"Nice try, but I can do that too dumb ass. The Master unlocked every bit of knowledge on what I can do, and by extension, what you can do. I'm smarter than you, stronger than you, and better than you."
"I thought about that." Noah pushed Dominic off, keeping a firm grasp on his hand. "But there's one thing you're forgetting." Noah stood up, standing over Dominic and glaring down. He put his foot in Dominic's armpit and declared, "You may know what you can do, but you'll never be as good as me."
Noah closed his eyes and concentrated on nothing but taking Dominic's energy. He felt Dominic become to weak to hold on to his hand anymore and Noah kicked out with his foot that rested in Dominic's armpit. Dominic was sent across the ground, the field around them fading. Noah's friends stood around it, not surprised to see Noah coming out victorious.
Noah walked over so he was standing over Dominic who laid on the ground, moving slowly. "I'm sorry you had to be pulled into this." Noah said. He nodded over to Sam and she called to the rest of the team, calling them back to the cars so Noah could have a moment alone. "I know it wasn't your choice. I can promise you though, your death will not be for nothing. We are going to avenge your death, and the death of every other controller that the Master has dragged between himself and us."
Noah dropped to one knee and reached out his hand and placed it on Dominic's spine. "But you're forgetting something." Dominic stretched his arms and turned his head so he could see Noah out of the corner of his eye. "You can't kill me." Noah took the energy. Everything he could find he stole. He felt it vanish without a trace. He kept his hand rested on Dominic's back for a moment, and that was when he felt more energy return.
It grew rapidly and filled Dominic before Noah could do anything about it. Dominic's eyes shot open and he turned quickly, grabbing hold of Noah's wrist. "You can't kill an energy controller with energy." Dominic flew up into the air, dragging Noah by the wrist into the air. "You know how powerful you are, why should I be any less?" They reached the clouds, the ground below them seemed impossibly far. "You were wrong by the way." Dominic lifted Noah so that they were nose to nose. "I am better than you in every way."
