{36} : "I Want To Know."
"We had gone undercover from that day. All these years, we kept ourselves hidden. We used to do our work in secrecy."
After Dad finished telling me everything, I was beyond shocked. How could they do this?
My parents were not like this.
"What kind of work do you do?" I dared to ask.
"The list may shock you," Dad started saying.
"I want to know," I said.
"We do the kind of work that bad people do," he answered.
"Be more specific."
Dad hesitated but said, "We hack security systems, we vanish money from banks-"
"Are you that hacker whom Michael is looking for?" I asked him suddenly.
"Yes," Dad answered. "But I framed Ashton."
"How?"
"We had planned to vanish a large amount of money from one of the famous banks. We knew that if we were successful in doing so then Michael would be given the assignment of tracing the hacker. I knew that he is one of the best hackers that Special Squad has and I also knew that he would be able to get to me. So, we needed a bait.
I had tried to hack the main computer of Special Squad and I was able to get the hacking pattern of Ashton from that computer. And we had a bait.
I hacked the security computer of the bank using Ashton's hacking pattern and vanished the money. We did all the work and the blame went to Ashton."
"I knew that Ashton wasn't the hacker!" I said more to myself. "Where have you kept him?" I asked Dad. I need to find Ashton.
"Locked in a room," was my Dad's reply.
"Let him go," I begged. "He hasn't done anything to you."
"We can't let him go, Rachael," Dad said. "He will get the Special Squad here."
"Mom and Dad, you were good people. What made you both choose the wrong path?" I asked to both of them.
"Rachael, we were fed up of Special Squad offering us very little money for all the dangerous assignments we did. We wanted the money that we deserved for our work. And there were other people who were ready to give more money if we worked for them," Mom told me.
"So, you did all the wrong things, just for money?"
Their silence gave me their answer.
"I never thought that my parents were so greedy for money. I'm damn sure that you can even kill your own daughter if someone offers you money," I said.
"We can never kill you for money," Mom said as she came closer to me.
"Don't come near me!" I yelled at her and she stopped coming towards me. I want to get away from these people.
Who are these people anyway? They are not my parents. My parents were good people. These people are bad.
And I don't want to be in the same room as them.
I headed towards the door. Dad caught my arm and asked, "Where are you going?"
"I don't want to be in the same room with both of you," I answered and I jerked my hand from Dad's grip.
"You can't exit this room," he told me.
"Why did you even bring me here?" I asked.
"Because Michael was coming to get you-"
I interrupted Mom, "How did you know that Michael was coming to get me?"
"We had men after him to inform us," she said. She continued, "We weren't sure whether Ashton had seen us on the security computer back at your underground safe place. So, we couldn't risk of Ashton telling Michael that he saw us on the security computer. That would have started some research on us and we didn't wanted that. We wanted to keep our existence a secret," Mom explained.
After a pause, she said, "That's the reason why we brought Ashton here and since you too know that we're alive, we brought you here.
"I can't believe that you are my parents," that's all I could think of saying.
