"She'll be coming round the mountain when she comes! She'll be coming' round the mountain when she comes!" my mom sand at the top of her lungs. "Sing with me, Kellin."

I gave my mother a single glance before turning my attention to the trees outside the moving car. "Thanks for the offer, but I'm going to have to pass," I deadpanned. I love my mother, but listening to her sing annoying kids songs quickly got on my nerves. Not the best situation the be stuck in when you're designated to be the fresh meat at a new school.

"Come on, sweetie, smile. It's California! Aren't you excited to see those tanned, chiseled, godlike boys you love to drool over?" Mom teasingly asked me.

"Mom!" I groaned, blushing. "That's it. That is the last time I talk to you about boys. No more."

Mom laughed, clearly proud that she had successfully made me flustered. She stopped the car at a stoplight and looked at me. "I know that this whole moving situation doesn't really sit well with you, but you have to understand, sweetie. This is for the best," she said to me. "It'll tale some time getting used to, but I promise you all of this will be worth it."

"Doubt it," I muttered.

Mom pulled up in front of Clairemont High, catching the attention of some students. I've always wanted to have attention drawn to me and make me more uncomfortable than ever. What new kid wouldn't want that? "Have a nice day at school, honey. And please give this move a chance," she pleaded with me. I nodded and kissed her cheek.

"Love you, mom," I said to her.

I grabbed my backpack and got out of the car. I waved Mom goodbye and faced the school in front of me, a heavy breath escaping my lips. 'Let's just get this other with,' I thought begrudingly to myself as I walked into the school. Clairemont High was much bigger than Eversdale High, that's for sure. I didn't think it was possible, but the students here was three times as louder as well. The bell rang and less than five seconds, the hallway was nearly empty. I took out the school map Mom gave me and my schedule and stared at it. Trying to read it was like trying to decode hieroglyphics. It was a dead end.

"What are you doing?"

I jumped at the voice and turned around. A tall Hispanic boy wearing a Harry Potter tank top and saggy jeans looked at me with his arms crossed. I gulped and looked at my schedule. "I'm trying to find Mr. Iero's class," I briefly explained to him. "I have AP Euro." The boy took my schedule and glanced at it for a while before handing it back to me.

"Upstairs, take a right, third door on your right," he instructed me.

"T-thanks," I said.

"No prob. I'm Mike."

"Kellin Quinn."

"Cool. See you around." Mike waved at me and walked off. I walked in the opposite direction and followed his direction. True to his words, I found Mr. Iero's class with no problem. I stepped in and walked over to middle aged man sitting at his desk.

"May I help you?" he asked.

"I'm Kellin, the new student here," I said.

"Oh, that's right. I'm Mr. Iero," he introduced himself, shaking my hand. "The students right now are preparing for their test tomorrow, but since you're new, you'll be exempt from it. Take a seat and you can work on something quiet for now."

I walked over to the spare seat in the back and sat down. I didn't have anything better else to do, so I just looked around the classroom. This class featured your stereotypical high school students you'd see in Hollywood movies: the nerdy Napoleon Dynamite, the brainless Troy Bolton, the plastic Regina George, the Breakfast Club Allison, and my personal favorite, the socially awkward wallflower Charlie Kelmeckis.
