Chapter Two
I threw the trash bag into the trashcan and walked back inside. Sam was sitting on the kitchen counter with his feet dangling below him and his hands were pressed against the counter beside him. We've been best friends since I was about eleven, around the same time I came here to America. I still had a slight British accent. I don’t remember a lot from the orphanage I came from besides the food really sucked balls, but that's about it.
I walked over to the pantry and grabbed a bag of chips and then jumped up on the counter next to Sam and grabbed a handful of chips, stuffing them into my mouth. After a couple handfuls of chips I heard a deep chuckle next to me. I stopped chewing - mouth full - and looked over.
Sam was turned slightly towards me with his head lent back onto the cabinet above him. His eyes were fixed on my face while his small chuckle turned into a slightly louder laugh. I rolled my eyes and grabbed another handful of chips and threw them at Sam's face. "Stop staring at me." He instantly stopped laughing and rose his eyebrows. "You want to play that way?" I scoffed.
He can be such a big baby. He jumped off the counter and walked towards the fridge. What is he doing? He opened the fridge door and grabbed a bowl of sour cream. Sam popped the lid off and stuck his hand into it. Crap.
I scrambled off the counter and ran for my life into the living room. Sam ran behind me trying to catch me. I jumped over the couch but he caught my foot before I could bring the other one over.
I fell to the ground and rolled over onto my back he took the handful of sour cream and smeared it into my hair. I screamed at the top of my lungs, startling both him and me. I just got my hair done. "You'll pay for that."
I knocked him off of my leg and ran into the kitchen grabbing anything I could find that could help me in a situation like this. I slowly made my way back into the living room and saw Sam looking around for me. I walked up behind him, took the bottle of ketchup, and squirted it all over his hair.
He screamed lowly and turned around grabbing the chocolate syrup out of the pile of junk in my arms. He took the bottle and squirted it all over my clothes. I turned around and made a run for it. I ended up crouching beside the couch hoping my hiding spot won’t fail me. Sam strolled by the couch but didn’t notice me and walked right past me. I stood up and began walking further into my living room.
I heard a sound behind me, and turned around so quickly I didn’t have a chance to realize who it was until I was done pelting the person with eggs and gave off a loud scream.
"God, mom I'm so sorry, I thought you were Sam!" I tried to walk towards my mom but she spoke before I could.
"Gabriella! Look at you! You're covered in food and oh my gosh, look at that hair! Which I spent eighty dollars on! I'm very disappointed in you, missy."
With that, she stomped away from me and up the stairs.
I began to walk back into the kitchen to put my stuff away but then I was tackled to the ground. I turned around while they straddled my stomach and held my wrists by my head. I managed to look up and see a laughing Sam as he stared down at me. I tried to squirm out of his hold but he only tightened his grip. "Sam I hate you so much, you know that?" He only kept laughing. Well this is just great. Graduation starts in one hour and I’m covered in food.
Sam finally stopped laughing and lowered his head down towards my ear. I could feel his hot breath hit the side of my face. "Don’t lie, you love me." He whispered very lowly.
The breath was knocked out of me. What is happening? Is he really on top of me right now? Sam moved his head over and his lips were inches away from mine as my breathing increased. He moved his eyes down at my mouth then lowered his head.
"What's going on here?"
Sam scrambled to his feet and stood up, taking me with him. I looked up for my eyes to meet my dad’s. This day keeps getting better and better. I could feel my cheeks heat up and I looked over at Sam. His cheeks were so red - I've never seen them so red before. I cleared my throat, "Umm…nothing." My words fumbled together.
My dad chuckled, "Then why is your mom in the shower, crying?" My mom is a hardcore vegan, so she doesn’t eat meat, including eggs.
"Uh... I-I pelted her with eggs." He opened his mouth to speak but I cut him off before any words could come out of his mouth, "But it was a complete accident, I swear I thought she was someone else!"
He shut his mouth and nodded his head and then looked over to Sam. "It’s nice to see you again son, but you might want to clean this mess up, along with Gabriella."
"Yes, sir." Sam said very lowly.
My dad nodded and then gave me a quick glance before walking back up the stairs. Once he was gone, Sam broke out into a huge laughing fit as I stood there thinking about the last ten minutes. "You actually threw eggs at your mother?" He spoke in between his laughs. I was still in shock from when he was laying on top of me about to kiss me. Or was he going to kiss me? I have no idea but I'm sure as hell not going to bring it up first.
"Shut up and clean this mess up." I turned around and started walking away. I can’t believe he got my hair to be such a mess right after I just went to get it done. I’m very furious with him right now, but sometimes it’s hard for me to continue to be mad with a best friend like him.
"Wait…" He grabbed my wrist and turned me around. "You have to help me too!"
"Well if you haven’t noticed I'm covered in chocolate syrup. I need to take a shower." I gave a small laugh.
"You still look pretty Gabriella." He looked at the ground and then back up at my face.
His smile slowly disappeared as my cheeks lite up for what seems like the thousandth time today. "Thanks, but I'm defiantly not going to graduation like this and you need a shower too, you smell."
He laughed and let go of my wrist. I gave him a minor smirk and went up the stairs to the bathroom. I turned the shower on and waited until I was ready.
What just happened?
