"Whether you think you can or think you can't you are right. Just go for it my child. I'll always be by your side."

---

"Remember this, since your skills are clearly superior to the other useless kids your age, you will be considered to be moved up a rank in the training corps. Maybe even graduate earlier than the others."

"Miss Basch, you are called in." She shot up her head to the direction where the husky male voice came from. Her eyes land on a young-looking man, his hair scattered in all directions, almost looking like a porcupine's back. He looks at her, smiling ear to ear. He's attracted to me, I knew it. She stands up abruptly, ignoring the boy that had just called her. She whizzes past him, continuing to walk to the office of the bald man that she had met a year ago. Arriving before the door, her hands make it's way to the loose doorknob, pulling it down farther than usual. A strong but pleasant smell of roses hit her face as the door crept half open, causing her to breathe in the love air.

Popping her head inside, she steadily says "Excuse me," before proceeding into walking in and closing the door behind her. The bald man looks up with a smile, "Miss Basch, it's nice to see you once again," pointing his hand to the chair. Upon arriving, she slowly sets down on the wooden chair. Uncomfortable I must say she frowns in her head. "I'll get straight to the point then," Alese sends her gaze at the man, predicting what this was about. "After evaluating you for a year, we, the higher-ups, have decided there is no need for you to continue training," He says in an impressed tone. Bullseye- "But, I must ask, which of the three paths are you willing to take?" He questions with sudden curiosity. Sigh "The Survey Corps, sir."

A loud chuckle fills the room. Tsk, just let me pick whatever, egghead. Laughing between the words, he suddenly starts, "I must say, you become even more intriguing every time we meet." He nods. Alese watches him emotionlessly as his laughter dies down. "Are you sure? Your talent is fit for the Military-"

"I am sure, sir" She cuts him in between his sentence. The old man hesitantly opens his mouth to speak, but quickly closes it back again. "I guess it's impossible to persuade you," He looks straight into her soul, "Especially with those eyes,".

"Am I to take that as an insult or a compliment, sir?" She questions almost immediately. He looks back at her and shrugs, "Depends on you I guess.", causing the girl to raise an eyebrow. "Well," He starts, "I believe it's time for you to go," He claps his hands together. Alese looks at him once again, "Excuse me?"

"I thought you wanted to go to the Survey corps" The girl stared at him blankly. "Right now, sir? She tilted her head as he stood up, walking to the doorway she entered a few moments ago. He opens the door widely before pointing his hands at a familiar figure. The girl immediately recognizes the bushy blonde man, standing a few feet before her. Erwin Smith.

"Erwin Smith, commander of the survey corps." Pixis introduced before the blonde man saluted. The girl raises an eyebrow, staring at the blonde commander, "How did you know I was to pick the Survey Corps, sir?" She presses her question onto him, sensing suspicious aura around him. "What do you mean by that?" He asks before Alese had stood up. "Is it by coincidence that you are here, in this district? Aren't you quite busy at this moment? Considering the fall of Shiganshina, you must be." She narrows her eyes at the two men. The blonde laughs, "I must say, you have a sharp mind. But no, I am not here by coincidence, we have some business to do." He states, obviously saying that he wanted this conversation to end. "Miss Basch, you may start packing your equipment. You are to be transferred to the Survey Corps as of today." Commander Pixis states before turning around with the blonde to exit the room. "May I ask another question?" She starts once again, causing them to look back.

"Did you perhaps foresee my decision of joining the Survey Corps?"

The carriage ride to the Survey Corps' Headquarters was quiet, aside from the sound of rocks slowly suffering from the weight of the horses' hooves and the carriage. The young girl uncomfortably shifted in her place as they neared their destination. "Quite a view, isn't it?" The sudden conversation striker startled her, turning her head to the scenery outside, she says, "It's quite unnatural to think nature is beautiful."

"And why is that?" The commander asks. The girl turns to the man, sitting on her far left, before speaking up. "Thinking like such means you lead an unclean life. And if you can cut yourself off from such "beauty", wouldn't it mean you have enough inner beauty within you to do so?" (Subete ga F ni naru feels~ 😭). Erwin raises an eyebrow, "Youre quite a philosophical person, aren't you?" He questions, causing the girl to laugh silently. "I'll take it as a compliment."

The carriage suddenly stops, and the two persons from the spacious carriage step out. Alese looks up at the huge medieval-style castle that towered over her. Let's get this over with.
