(I should mention that this is my first book that I have made viewable, though not my first attempt at a book, I'm not very good, this first part especially isn't any good, its long and boring but it is going to get better (bullshit), I just need to get the setup out of the way and couldn't think of a good start. Sorry.)
(Also this first bit is narrated but that'll change)
I, am Sammael, a Warden in the Blackstone Legion and Second in command to Apollyon, my Warlord. I first met her twelve years ago, I had been hired on by a coward named Hervis Daubany. He was Blackstone once, but he betrayed Apollyon in order to pursue his own greed, at the time, I didn't care for any Warlords or the oaths they would have me swear, I wondered Ashfeld and helped out where I could, defending villages and the like, Daubany was just a means to an end. I was hunting Lawbringer within the Blackstone ranks, and I had Hoped that Daubany could get me close to him, The Lawbringer had failed in his duty, and abandoned a village in the wake of a Viking raid, claiming they weren't worthy of defending, I knew he was just a coward. I was too late to save them myself, but one of the villagers in their dying breath told about the coward, and I swore to bring him to justice.
Despite Daubany's betrayal, he still led me to my target, a force of Blackstone Legion men led by the legendary Holden Cross had marched on Daubany's castle of Westhold, they attacked the castle from the main gate, climbing ladders up the walls before ramming the gate. I put little effort into its defense, I didn't care about Daubany, and most of those who served him just as cowardly, there was one, however, another Warden that I couldn't help but admire, He/She did nearly all of the heavy lifting in Westhold's defence, and even after the gate was breached and the Blackstone forces overtook ours, He/She stood ready to defend all those at his/her back. It was at the moment of the gates breach, that it occured to me that I didn't have a plan at all, how was I going to get my prey? Did I think I was going to go through the entire legion for this one man? I didn't want this to be my final mission. Luckily, Holden Cross was a man of Honor, he came through the gate, and instead of having his forces overwhelm Daubany's, he demanded a trial by combat, as I expected, he refused, knowing he would lose against Cross. They both chose a second to fight in their places, Fighting on behalf of Cross was Warden Named Ademar, and Daubany chose that Warden, who no doubt had the highest kill count during the siege, as they both stepped foward to begin their dual, my target showed himself, black iron armor sloppily painted with what appears to blood all over, and the Blackstone sigil barely visable on his faceplate.
I stood there as the dual went on trying to think of a plan to get him and me alone, and found myself distracted by the Warden in blue, Ademar was good, Cross' best, but Daubany's Warden was better (should I name the campaign Warden?) He/She defeated him with a murder stroke, planting the guard of their sword into his neck. I admired his/her skills, but although we would both come to serve the same master, we would not be allies. Daubany had won, but was still at Cross' mercy, everyone was silent when Ademar fell, they all were on edge, gripping their blades. Cross, looking defeated, stayed true to his word and, after making the Warden a Knight of the Blackstone Legion, gave the order to leave. I paniced, thinking I'd lost my chance to strike, I tried to think of a way to follow them back to their fortress, as luck would have it , a few Blackstones came into the courtyard with a cart, and began loading it with their dead, I took the opportunity when no one was looking to load myself onto the cart, no one noticed and they piled a few more onto me before judging it to be full and loading the rest on 2 more carts and another came for the weapons before they set out on our way.
As we departed from Westhold I began to regret my decision, I started to feel the weight of the three dead men on top of me, and their smell invaded my nostrils. This was going to be a long trip...
(Ok, now that thats out of the way I think this next chapter will be quite a bit better, with actually dialogue and character development and such, any criticism is welcome so long as its constructive, I'm really just doing this for shits and giggles but any advice on becoming a better writer is appreciated)
