I lay there still in my hospital bed. I'm alive, but barely. I look my room and see many flowers.
They were the only things that kept the room from looking so bland and depressing...I was soon ripped away from my train of thought from a sudden jolt of pressure coming from my left.
I turned my head as best as I could to see my beloved smiling softly at me while having a tentative grasp on my hand. I silently replied with a smile, and started to caress the palm of his hand with my frail thumb.
We knew this was the end for us. But we also knew this was only the beginning. I turned back to our family surrounding us; Our child, their lovely children, and my brothers and sister, as well as their children.
I smiled sadly, knowing we won't be there to guide them down the right path, but certain they will make the right decisions (With the occasional mistakes) even when we're gone.
The nurse then comes in, notifying them that visiting hours are now over. I gave out hugs, kisses, and promises that I will always be watching over them, for the last time......
Silence. Silence was all we could hear until I broke it.
"I love you," I said, turning to him once again.
"You know that, right?"
"Yes." He said, also turning towards me once more.
"And I love you too." He tightened his grip on my hand.
It was time.
I smiled as the light drained from my eyes as well as the life draining from my body, knowing that my lover will be following soon after.Darkness..
Now light.
