We are the result of our own boneheaded decisions.
Taking ownership of those bad choices and mental blunders is part of being a responsible member of the human race. This will include asking of forgiveness and making things right as much as we have the capacity to do so.
It is no different in our spiritual maturity. We must confess sin as soon as the Holy Spirit brings it to our mind. And what are we, if not teachable? We must learn to listen for the voice of the Spirit before we give into temptation. It is there, if we are paying attention.
We are human, therefore inclined to engage in Boneheadism, if I may make up a word. But thanks be to God, He gives us a way out.
2 Corinthians 10:3-5
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses.
