Raegan opened her eyes as her alarm woke her up. The sound was exasperating. It's wasn't the usual beeping of an alarm more like a distant screech. God did she hate it.
She stumbled out of bed, trying to keep her heavy eyes open. Groaning and moaning from the fatigue. She pushed her hair out of her face as she looked into the mirror. Her eyes weren't puffy and red and the dark circles started to dissapear, they had been extremely dark a few weeks ago, but she had been sleeping better.
She didn't have a nightmare last night. She was gratefull for that, it would be her first day today and she didn't want a red face and puffy eyes from waking up crying.
She walked towards the dresser that stood opposite from her bed and pulled open a drawer. She grabbed some jeans and a simple T-shirt.
She decided to take a shower first. The warm water always made her feel better, as if it could wash everything away, sadly it didn't do that. If only it could wash away the horrible memories that plagued her mind.
When Raegan arrived downstairs her uncle was already making breakfast for her. The 26 year old, or rather young man smiled at the girl. He also noticed she had been looking better and more alive the past weeks.
"Goodmorning Rae, did you sleep well?" Asked her uncle Aden with a wide smile. Raegan nodded with a smile at her uncle, not wanting to seem rude. She groaned as she took place at the kitchen table. Putting her hand under her head.
"Can I sleep now?" Asked Raegan as Aden placed a plate with waffles on the table and took place opposite from her. He chuckled, a warm hearty chuckle. "Sure, I won't get it in trouble will school, you will." Raegan rolled her eyes. "Can't I stay home? I don't wanna go." Aden shook his head. "Come on Rae, we've been over this, you gotta go back, besides you are fine now, aren't you?" He sighted. "Rae, if there's anything, you need to tell me, we can go back to-"
Raegan stood up, abruptly in a harsh way. "Can you not? I'm not fragile, I'm not a wreck or some mental freak. I'm okay alright. I'm over it!" Snapped Raegan before she stormed out of the kitchen.
She ran upstairs, facing herself in the mirror. She grabbed a brush and started to brush her hair, totally calm, almost in a freaky way. She stared at herself for a second. The bags under her eyes, the dullness in her eyes. People always said you could tell about a person by their eyes.
Does that make me a total wreck?
Raegan sighted and put the brush away, she grabbed some concealer to cover the dark colour under her eyes. It was her first day on her new school. She wanted to make an impression. A good one.
Minutes later the girl walked down the stairs, she sighted when she saw Aden cleaning the kitchen, his shoulders hung low.
She walked up to him and bit her lip, regretting that she had snapped at him. He only wanted to help her, he didn't mean it that way. He had lost a sister, and his nephew and a good friend aswell. She wasn't the only one who lost her loved ones.
But he didn't have to witness it.
"Aden." Her voice was low, almost a whisper and for a moment Ragen thought he didn't hear her, but he did.
He turned around a plate in his hand, his small house didn't have a dishwasher. He gave her a small smile. She sighted. "I'm sorry I snapped at you, you didn't deserve that."
He shrugged. "I get it Raegan, it's alright. I shouldn't have assumed."
He frowned after that, looking at his watch and then looking back at her.
"Still not feeling good about school? I can call them if you want to?" Raegan quickly shook her head. "No, no, don't do that. I want to go. I can't stay home forever."
Aden smiled at his niece, glad she changed her mind, he then let out a small chuckle. "We must hurry then, school starts in 20 minutes."
