Sadness and sorrow was the only emotion flowing in the air.For Mary it felt like the whole world had just stopped dead in its tracks. She felt like broken glass with half the pieces lost and the other half crushed as small as grains of sugar. Everyone thought that what happened was for the best but for Mary everything had changed.Mary loved her grandmother and now that she had passed away there wasn't anybody to kiss her goodnight, nobody to bake her the special cake she used to and nobody to stay awake with her all night when she was sick. Her grandmother wasn't only her grandmother she was like her mother and her best friend which could never be replaced not now,no ever.

Mary's eyes were swollen by now from crying non stop since she was given the news by her parents. She was just lying on her bed when her mum came into the room and said "Mary dear you know grandma wouldn't want to ever see you cry like this and specially not if it was because of her.We all know that this is a really big shock for you but your grandma's going to a better place now you know."

How could you possibly Know how I feel you've never been there for me when I needed you most. Grandma always stood by me when I was concerned, she always made sure that I was alright and never let me cry. Grandma loved me and I loved her and you can never take grandmas place... ever!!!" She sobbed.

" I know I haven't been there for you specially when you needed me most but I want to be there for you now. Please Mary give me a chance! I know I can't ever replace grandma but at least I can make you feel better." She pleaded.

Just as Mary opened her mouth to reply to her mother someone had knocked on the door, it was her dad, he was telling them that if they didn't leave soon then they won't arrive on time.So Mary really slowly got up and put on her furry leopard coat that her grandma had given to her on her birthday. It was always her favourite possession and now it was a way to keep her grandma close by.

Once she'd put on the coat she went outside and sat in the car. Everyone really quietly put on there seat belts and now they were of to attend the funeral...

Everyone was there! Mary didn't even recognise some of the people that attended the funeral. Everyone seemed to look really upset but Mary thought that they were all pretending and she was the only one who truly loved her grandmother.

All of a sudden all the sadness was rushing Back and before she new it her eyes stinging with tears that wanted to be let out of the prison that were her eyes. Hot tears Came running down her face like water coming out of a tap. Everyone just suddenly stopped and looked at her. She needed to go get out of this crowd people. Just as all the worst emotions were piling into her head all together someone tapped her on the shoulder and she turned to see who it was. It was a boy with dark blue eyes and light blonde hair he was asking her if she was alright and really gently he took hold of her arm and took her away from the big crowd of people.

Then he really quietly in a soft voice asked her " are you alright. Do you need me go help you find your way round or do you need a tissue or something." Mary was still lost in her thoughts and so she stood still and just gazed at the boy."

He still tried to communicate with her "So you must know who Charisse was... She was a great women I really will miss her a lot."

When Mary heard her grandmas name being mentioned she began to listen and then in a really quiet and dried up voice said" how do you know my grandma, I've never seen you and she hasn't mentioned you before either."

"So you must be Mary my name's Marcus, Mazz for short and Charisse was my piano teacher. She probably didn't mention me much because I don't like people to know about my piano lessons." Mary didn't know what she could say back to him but just as she was to say thank you for taking her away from the crowd her grandad called her urgently.

"I guess I should go now... bye."

As she was walking towards her grandad she kept on thinking about her gran and Marcus.

"Mary come with me I need to give you something really important" whispered, Mary's grandad. Her grandad took hold of her hand and they scurried to the other side of the gravestones. He really quickly reached into his coat pocked and handed her a book with the life of Charisse stones written on it big bold letters. "It was your grandmas. During her last hours in hospital she gave it to me and said that this should first be read by Mary and then it is her choice whether or not she chooses to let anyone else read it. She also told me that she'd never like to see you cry, specially not after she was gone. So just keep the book with you and your grandma will be with you whenever. You need her."

Mary tightly held the book in between her bony fingers and hugged it.
