Hello. I hope you enjoy reading my fan fiction. ^_^ I've never written for Inu X Boku before, and it's been really fun so far. This first chapter is from Touya's (the bodyguard's) point of view, but the rest of the story will be from Rini's perspective. My chapters are pretty short, but I didn't feel the need to make them much longer. Short and sweet. :)

Please enjoy, vote and comment! Thank you. :)

Chapter 1- The First Day

The man pulled his car up outside the tumbledown garage and stopped the engine. A look at his surroundings told him exactly what he expected: he was out of place, to say the least. Formally dressed in a sleek black Western suit and crisp white shirt, with mid-length, sandy-coloured hair, the man hardly looked like a resident of this run-down area.

Aware of the dumbfounded stares of passing children, he sighed, but straightened the lapels on his blazer before opening the door and taking a step outside.

Unconsciously he sniffed the air and coughed, as if he were catching a disease merely from being in such a place. Rubbish was scattered carelessly on the unmaintained road; people heckled him on their way past him. A flush of discomfort rose in his pale cheeks.

When an older, unshaven man in a labourer’s jumpsuit approached him, he tried his best not to look startled or affronted.

“Can I help you, buddy?” the stranger said. He didn’t say it rudely, but the man wasn’t entirely sure how to interpret these words.

He cleared his throat. “Er, yes, well, would you mind watching over my car for a while? I have to pick someone up, and wasn’t sure if they had a parking space. I thought it may be a good idea to leave it with a garage.”

The stranger sniggered, and clapped the man on the shoulder. He flinched.

“’Course I can do that. Just don’t think it’ll be here when you get back. That thing’s an angel on wheels. I might just keep it for myself.”

“You’ll do what?”

“Relax! I was joking. Leave her here. I’ll look after her till you get back from whatever it is you’re doing.”

The man smiled with relief, and bowed awkwardly. He dug around in his pocket, pulled out a bill for a sizeable amount of yen, and planted it in the stranger’s hand. Eyes wide, the stranger swallowed, and the man wondered whether he had overkilled with that amount of cash. How, he didn’t know. It really wasn’t that much to him. He didn’t know what to think.

“It’s the least I can do for your services,” he said to break the silence. “I’ll return soon, and I expect to find my car in the same condition I left it in. Thank you very much.”

He bowed again, and took off, leaving the garage owner stammering and lost for words.

The neighbourhood seemed to smell of a mix between food and dust, He coughed again, and his hand went into his pockets once more, this time revealing a tiny, hand-drawn map of the area, with the words ‘girl’s residence’ scribbled over a picture of a house, drawn in gold. He took a glance, and nodded to himself. After raising his head again, he was greeted with a sight.

He bristled and looked up to see a young girl staring intently into his eyes. For a moment he was startled and he stuffed the map back in his pocket. He’d never seen such bright blue eyes. They seemed even brighter against her pallid skin and ash blonde hair. Something about her aura told him what he was relieved to know. She had that look about her, the look of a solitary soul, a soul that was not of this world.

Though only a moment had passed, it felt like their eyes had connected in a different timeline, somewhere far off where time ran slower. The wind rustled her hair, brushing it over her innocent-looking gaze.
