Based on the story of Echo and Narcissus
Narcissus stared at the water, his beautiful reflection staring upon him. "My heart pounds for you to return my feelings", he said to his beloved... um... self. Echo stared at him from the tree, she was still in love with him.. She was still getting over his powerful rejection statement, 'Don't come any closer. I don't like you.' Echo wailed at this remembrance for she loved Narcissus with all her heart. Narcissus didn't question his sexuality, for he knew that the figure in the pond was his one true love.
As Narcissus stared deeply into the reflection in the water, he decided he was going to stay with his lover forever. Echo knew of his decision but shrugged, and decided to let him, because of his rejection. "I will never leave you." Narcissus said to the water, and the reflection repeated. Narcissus felt overjoyed when he heard his lover's statement. Narcissus leaned in to give his reflection a kiss, his lips touched only the cool blue spring water. "Where did you go my love?" Narcissus questions. He leans closer. "I will find you!" He exclaims and jumps into the lake.
Narcissus knew he was drowning, but kept his eyes open in hopes of finding his one true love. He continues to swim hoping that his Romeo was somewhere close. Instead he found a cave with a broad opening. The young, brave man swam inside the cave, finding that the cave was not filled with water. Maybe his love lives here. Narcissus walked around the bare cavern, looking everywhere for his hidden Romeo. "Hello?" he called out into the ominous cave "Is there anybody here?" Sadly, all he heard was an echo of his own voice. "I am here." he replied to his own question, thinking it was his lover's' reply. Narcissus wandered farther into the cavern, wondering where his love could be hiding.
As he walked, the cavern got darker and darker- when suddenly it got brighter! There, in the middle in the grotto, was a small key-like object. He longed to touch it; but he had heard of tales that a witch was there to guard the key. Though he didn't know why, the temptation was too great and Narcissus found himself walking towards the key. As he stretched out his arm a shock ran through his entire body. He looked around wondering if anything had
happened when suddenly...
Narcissus was now underwater, desperate to find his way back.
Once he found his way back to the grotto, he saw another person in the tunnel! Crawling on his knees, he looked up- and so did the other figure. "Who are you?" he inquired. He jumped- alarmed that this other figure had been speaking the same time as him! "You look.... HOT!" they both chided at the same time. "No, you look good... No! YOU look good!" Narcissus wasn't bothered at all that the other person somehow managed to say the same things as him at the same time. "Great minds think alike." they both said with a wink.
Time went by, the original Narcissus felt happier. He found his lover, life was great.
Something was different though, the newer Narcissus started to do evil things. At first they looked like little accidents, but everything he did got worse.
Narcissus then realized how terrible his soul mate was... When he killed someone. He claimed it was an accident, but Narcissus had enough. One day he confronted his so called 'soulmate'.
One day, as they were laying in bed together in the early morning light that streamed through the open window in their small house. Narcissus now decided that he would address his lover about the 'accidental' murder of a fellow friend Echo. Trying not to be blunt about it, he asks Narcissus about the events that had lead up to the murder.
"Honey, what actually happened with Echo?". The vile Narcissus looks up at his 'soulmate'. "I told you, why don't you believe me?" he asks. Narcissus could tell that he was getting angrier by the second; that had been happening alot lately, even over the littlest of things.
" I do" Narcissus replies, but he can tell that the damnable half of himself was about to burst with contained anger. "I'm going to take a walk, you stay here." Narcissus walked out, he needed to find someone to defeat his lover, he needed to find the witch that had been in the cavern guarding the key. Narcissus journeyed to the cavern, where he first met the so called love of his life; ready to defeat anything that runs in his path.
After the short journey, he arrived at his destination. It was exactly how he remembered it. The damp atmosphere, the key in the center of the room on a pedestal, and the Witch who was standing by the key. " Who dare you to just walk in here like you own the place, and not care about manners." the witch said with a snarl. Narcissus looked at the Witch straight in the eyes, trying to seem more confident than he actually is. "I'm here to get that key, I am done with my so called soulmate. He has turned evil." Narcissus took a step closer to the key, ready to attack the Witch at any moment. "Well that sounds like a you problem, cause you're the one who touched the key"she replied a-matter-of-factly. "But please you have to help me...or I'll make you." Narcissus said, for he was desperate for help, but the Witch still stood strong; then suddenly grew a smug smirk. "I'll make a deal with you, you can chose to give up your good looks and only then will I help you." Narcissus was mortified, but took the proposition anyway; he could not bare his evil lover any longer.
The Witch snapped her fingers, the world around Narcissus turned white. When the colors returned to the world, Narcissus already felt unsightly.
The cruel, and wicked Narcissus had been defeated. But poor Narcissus, he couldn't bare being alone again. He found a lover, and he lost him. Narcissus couldn't deal with the pain anymore. He was now hideous, not even the nymph's were in love with him anymore. Sitting by the edge of the lake, he did what he had to do, Narcissus jumped into the cool blue spring water, and never came back up...alive.
