*Charlie's POV*
I fit Harry's suitcase in the back sideways. It was really heavy to carry through a whole airport. Why did I even take it? Oh right.
Cause I was trying to be a good friend.
Why did I have to be so nice?
My legs were still noodles from what had happened earlier. I had no idea what I was even thinking! My brain had been telling me to just calm down, just wait for him to come to you. Obviously I failed with that. I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket.
thanks. be there in a sec.
I quickly replied. What was the point of making text conversation if we were going to have to be seated together for a whole hour drive? Honestly, what was the point?
Anne got in the car, and as I was about to pull open the door, Gemma grabbed my arm and pulled me to the back of the car.
"What the hell happened back there?" She asked me, still gripping my forearm. I wriggled it out of her hand. Her long nails had left small indentations in my arm. I began to rub it to try to get the hurt to go away.
"I don't know! It just happened." I answered her. Gemma looked unimpressed with my answer. She motioned for me to elaborate, but I really didn't feel like it. So I just shrugged. Thank god Harry showed up, turning the corner, scrolling through his phone. I pointed behind Gemma and she turned around and groaned.
"We are continuing this conversation at home." She whispered. I stuck my tongue out at her as she got in the passenger seat. I opened the car door and got in behind the drivers seat and we all looked out the window. Harry was speed-walking towards the car, trying to lose the small group (and by small I mean about a hundred) of teenage girls he had somehow picked up.
He opened the door on the opposite side of me and climbed in.
"You have my suitcase?" He asked, buckling his seatbelt. Harry turned to me and sent me a small smile. I returned it and stared ahead at the back of Anne's seat.
"Nope, sorry, we must have lost it along the way." I answered. He actually looked a little bit scared for a second, but then he picked up on my joking tone. He laughed and put his head down.
"Nice." He said. Gemma looked at me through the mirror and she gave me a tight smile. I shrugged as I giggled. She rolled her eyes and began to talk to Anne about something. I wasn't interested in hearing much about their conversation and Harry seemed to be taking a large interest in his phone. So I pulled my phone out of my sweater pocket and took out my headphones as well. I put my music on shuffle and leaned my head on the window, closing my eyes. My phone buzzed in my hand, it was probably just a text from Mum asking when we would be home. I ignored it for a bit until I could no longer, because whoever it was kept texting me.

I looked over at him and he had a goofy grin on his face. I took out one of my earbuds and handed it to him. The cord wasn't long enough, so we had to scoot closer together. We were now both partially in the middle. I took the seat belt and brought it behind my shoulders so it was no longer choking me. I clicked open the music app and went to all my songs and handed my phone to Harry. He got a very focused face and scrolled through about all of my songs twice before he finally decided on I Lived by One Republic.
Hope when you take that jump
You don't fear the fall
Hope when the water rises
You build a wall
Hope when the crowd screams out
They're screaming your name
Hope if everybody runs
You choose to stay
The song lyrics played out through our earbuds and I watched Harry begin to mouth out the lyrics as he started to hand my phone back to me. He abruptly stopped and went to my contacts. I gave him a questioning look as he scrolled through them until he got to his name. He opened his little file thing and feigned hurt when he saw he didn't have a picture. Harry looked at me with the most determination I had ever seen in somebody's eyes. He pressed edit and clicked the camera icon. I watched him experiment with selfies for a little until he put his face right next to mine and pointed to the camera. I looked at him with a pouty face and he pulled out my earbud.
"Do it." He said with all seriousness. I giggled at him and replaced my spot next to him. I went with a normal photo pose like a smile while Harry went all out with a duck face and crossed eyes. He snapped the picture and we both looked it over.
"I like it." He broke our short silence with approval. Harry handed me my phone back and I nodded in agreement.
"Me too." I saved the contact settings and replaced my earbud. He replaced his as well, and by now the song had switched to Animal by Neon Trees. Harry and I resumed texting, our replies getting more and more random and more and more strange by the second.
What was wrong with us? One second I'm in his arms, the next I'm irritated as hell with him, the next we are taking pictures together and joking around with each other. I didn't ever know what to call our relationship.
Friends.
We were always going to be friends. No matter what happened I don't think either of us would ever forget about the other. Because throughout these three years where I thought that I had hated him...
I didn't.
