I walk down the cold rainy street. Headphones in, head down. Walk fast. Don't look up. Walk fast. Don't look up. Walk fast. Don't look up. If you walk fast and don't look up, you won't get taken. If you walk fast and don't look up, you will get home safely. I walk fast and don't look up. I finally walk up the stairs to my apartment building. I walk fast and don't look up until i get inside of my apartment.
I throw my purse on the floor and set my phone on the counter, taking out my earbuds and place them right next to my phone. Then i walk softly to the bathroom. I turn the faucet of the bathtub on to its highest heat. I undress and set out my towels for my hair and body. I turn on the shower head and step in. The burning sensation on my skin is comforting. It wraps around me like a warm blanket. It makes me feel like no one can hurt me ever again.
I step out of the shower and dry off before dressing and walking to the couch and laying down. I wrap my warm blanket of safety around me and turn on some soft music. I watch the fireplace as it quietly cracks and burns up the wood I put in it. I look for faces in the flames because someone is burning somewhere. My eyes eventually shut and all of the sudden I wake up to the bright sun shining through my window into my eyes.
I stare at the sun because the pain is better than any other pain. I stare at the sun because it blinds me to where I can't see anything anymore. I eventually look away and stand before falling on the floor again from dizziness. I stand again and walk to the kitchen. I grab a banana and dress myself in a pencil skirt and blouse. I grab my phone and earbuds and walk out of my apartment.
Walk fast. Don't look up. Walk fast. Don't look up. Walk into the street. Don't look up. Look up. Black. Falling. Pain. Light. Healing. Forgiveness. End.
