"Because I love you, Bella."
I really could not stop the downpour from my eyes, tucking my head under his chin to avoid his eyes. His soft, caring, gentle eyes. This was breaking my heart, and I knew I wouldn't follow through the moment I looked at his optimistic smile.
"Jake... I don't know what to say. I want to say it back, and I do trust you, but I don't know if I trust myself yet." The tears came harder. I didn't want to hurt him, my Sun. All Jake has ever done is support me, brighten my days, brought wholeness into my life again. I couldn't stand to loose him, too.
"Oh, honey... it's okay. I just had to tell you, make my intentions clear. But I intend to be whatever you need right now." Jake whispered, wiping the tears off my face without even having to glance down.
Already regretting my rejection, but seeing no way to take it back, I curled closer into his chest, his warmth, his protection. I don't remember falling asleep, or getting back from the clearing. But when I woke up, I was in a T-shirt twice my size and a bed half my length - neither thing mine.
