Chapter 3

It's about time we got home. 45 minutes really felt like two hours. As soon as Mom finish double parking, I rushed out of the car and went to the back to retrieve my bags. Walking straight into the condo, not even allowing her to cut of the engine.

I heard her sigh and scream my name. "Natalie, wait!"

"Ms.Natalie", Marty greeted.

"Mart", I nod.

I never say 'Marty' when I'm angry. It's just sounds to cheerful.

Walking in the elevator and completely leaving my mom, I press 10.

This is not how I planned my day.

Pulling out my keys and entering home , I surprisingly come to find my dad home.

"Pumpkin!", he shouts.

"Hey daddy!" I shout back. I love my mom but, im a total daddy's girl.

Being a lawyer results in him being very busy, somehow he still manages to spend time with my mom and I.

Walking in and dropping my bags, I jump on the counch and join him.

"Hey daddy. I missed you.", I rest my head on his shoulder.

"I missed you too pumpkin. Here's what on Sunday, you and I can cook up a big Sunday dinner just like we use to. Sounds great?" He asks.

"Sounds great", grinning ear to ear.

"Where's your mother?"

Looking at my watch I tell him, "Oh...she should be here in 5, 4, 3, 2,", I count down knowing how long it takes for my mom to come upstairs.

Hearing the door open and close by 1, it was mom as predicted. Dropping her bags on floor, making her way towards the living room.

"Oh hey, honey! Didn't expect to see you home so early."

"Yeah, well just wanted to leave work and come home to my beautiful ladies." He says, hugging both of us and kissing us on the forehead.

"Uhh....gotta go. I'll be in my room" I said, trying to leave the scene I don't feel to be in right now.

"Okay. Oh, wait Natalie!" Mom yells after me.

I was hopping she wasn't going to do that. Turning around and putting on a fake smile, I face her.

"Mom"

"I'm sorry for bringing him up. It just slipped out. Sorry." She apologizes.

Crossing my arms leaning on the wall, I try to find the right words.

"It's cool, just wished he hadn't come up but as you said, it was an accident. So it's okay." I smile genuinely. How can I ever stay mad at my mom for long.

"Well, I'll be in my room", picking up my shopping bags, I get ready to go in my room.

"And you were there at the turn
