Taro was reading his book as always. The day was calm, like it usually was. His beloved girlfriend, Ayano Aishi, sat by his side happily, reading with him. "Hey Taro?" she asked. He looked up at her and smiled. "What is it, Ayano?" he responded. "Will you always love me?" she asked him. He put down his book and hugged her. "Of course, Yan-chan! I love you more than anything, and will until the end of time. What kind of question is that?" he laughed. "As long as you always love me, Ayano, I don't even care if you love others too. As long as we'll always be together." She sighed happily and snuggled up with him. Everything was going right for her in her life. The weather was pleasant — warm with a light chilly breeze. She had her Senpai all to herself, and hadn't had to hurt anyone. They were together, and he had said he would love her until the end of time. She kept him close, ignoring everything else. Her black kitten, Ninja, purred in her lap. She looked into his golden eyes and kissed him on the forehead with a smile. Everything seemed so perfect... until a speaker went off at the front entrance to the courtyard.

"Everyone on Akademi High's grounds, report inside the school's gymnasium immediately! Do not panic, but we are all in grave danger! Hurry now!" Taro slammed his book shut as multiple students had panic attacks. Yuna Hina fainted into the arms of her friends, the Rainbow Six girls. They carried her away and out the door. When they opened the door, Taro saw teachers ushering the Gardening Club members and the female and male delinquents towards the gym. Genka Kunahito, the guidance counsellor, was herding students out the door. Taro was beginning to panic, and felt dizzy. Ayano noticed and panicked too. "Senpai? SENPAI!! Are you okay?! ANSWER ME!!!" she screamed in panic, tears beginning to cascade down her face as Taro slowly got dizzier. "I... I'm okay, love..." he mumbled. Ayano clung to him as other students ran over to help him walk. "Taro! Are you alright?! You look like you're about to throw up!" Hayato Haruki exclaimed. "Baka, get yourself to the gym before you pass out! You're hard to carry!" his childhood friend Osana Najimi told him. "Onii-chan!! You'll be alright! Don't panic!" his little sister Hanako said. "Is he oka—" Asu Rito was beginning to ask. Taro only heard half of her sentence before he held his head, feeling sick, and the sky above him zoomed away faster than he could comprehend. Then everything went black.

"Taro? Taro, please wake up!" a desperate male voice called. Mr. Shuyona...? Taro thought drowsily. He opened his eyes and half-sat up, relieved to see the entire population of Akademi High in the gymnasium with him, including Yuna, who had woken up. They all looked relieved to see him awake. "Onii-chan! You scared me! Never do that again!" Hanako exclaimed. She grabbed onto her brother's arm and hugged him as Ayano clung to his other side. "Senpai, I was so worried! Do you feel alright?!" the Yandere girl cried. "I'm okay, guys, don't panic," Taro reassured his sister and girlfriend. The headmaster, a young man named Kocho Shuyona, looked as relieved as everyone else to see Taro standing up already. "Thank god you're alright, Taro, I was beginning to think we lost someone already," he sighed. Everyone looked confused. "What do you mean by already?" Amai Odayaka asked. The headmaster sighed again. "Yes, students. I am afraid we are all in great danger. On the news today, it was said that a hospital patient infected with a strange virus escaped his captivity today. The window to his room was found smashed and the outside door to the hospital knocked down. We have an infected citizen on the loose, and his virus was said to make him exhibit zombie-like behaviour. As much as I hate to say it, students..." he said to the panicked student body in front of him, "...the end of the world as we know it is upon us. We have no contact with the government, and going outside of school grounds is about as dangerous as sticking your hand in an active woodchipper. We have to stay together and stay close, for we all may die soon. We have to protect each other. I make no guarantees that we all will live to tell this story." A few sensitive students began to cry. Others panicked. And one girl, Oka Ruto, started having a mini nervous breakdown, crying and curling up into a ball, whimpering that she didn't want to die like this.

"Mr. Shuyona... what do we do...?" Asu asked. The headmaster began to cry a bit himself. "We... we just all have to stay together and stay calm, no matter what happens." The teachers, Muja, and Genka all comforted him as he started crying. "I wish I could just see my daughter again..." he quietly sighed to himself. Taro held Ayano and Hanako close, and comforted them. "No matter what happens, you two, I won't let anything happen to you. You are the two most important people in my life. We will get through this, all of us. We have to." Ayano and Hanako both cried on his shoulder, scared out of their minds. Even the delinquent leader and bravest student in the school, Osoro Shidesu, looked scared. "Everyone stay calm," Genka insisted. "We will all be okay." The headmaster broke down and tears cascaded down his face. Taro took a step forward. "Mr. Shuyona, it's okay, we'll all be alright..." he said, trying to console him. After a while, Kocho finally stood up and took two identical pictures out of his wallet. The pictures showed him holding a little girl on his shoulders. The little girl had orange pigtails, like Koharu, and azure-blue eyes. She wore a smaller version of the Akademi uniform. She must go to Akademi Elementary School, Taro thought. The headmaster gave one picture to Taro and spoke, the entire student body looking at him.

"This is my daughter, Chiyoko Shuyona. She was the only thing I had left of my wife, and she was my little princess. She went missing a year ago, when she was four years old. I'm going out into the city to find her. I would rather die looking for her than live and never see her again. Please, if you find her, call me immediately. If you never hear from me again..." He choked a bit. "...tell her her father loves her, and died happy, because he was looking for her up until his final moments." With that, he stuck out his hand, and Taro shook it. "I promise, Mr. Shuyona. We will look for her until we die." he told him. Kocho smiled. "Thank you so much. This means the world to me." He turned towards the door and ran outside, waving goodbye. Everyone else waved back. "See you soon, boss!" Genka called. "Good luck, Mr. Shuyona!" the students shouted. The headmaster smiled as he kept running. Taro looked at the picture of Chiyoko and her father, and wondered if he would ever see him again. He smiled and waved goodbye to the headmaster, who answered by waving back, and kept looking back towards the gym until he left the school grounds. The teachers proceeded to lock the gymnasium door, as Genka placed the photo on a projector and showed it to everyone before giving it back to Taro. Ayano looked at the photograph and whispered to herself. "We will keep our promise, Mr. Shuyona. We will never stop looking for your daughter."
