Malia P.O.V
I woke up to the sound of my parents arguing downstairs. I try to roll over hoping that they'll stop and I can just go back to bed. It's almost every morning they have something to argue about but this morning is worse then usual. I bunched up into a ball and covered my ears with my pillow. A couple minutes later I hear my door creeping opening and I glance over to see my mom standing in my door way.

"Good morning my Lia lamb. Happy birthday to my oldest child". Her voice was soft but there was a pain hidden in her voice. My dad and her must have been arguing about finances again. In our pack we were considered middle class. We weren't poor and living in a shack but we weren't rich and living in a mansion. We are just average. Most family's averaged about one or two kids unless you had money then you had more kids. My parents only had me and my little brother who was only a year younger then me. If you looked at us side by side he looked a lot older then me. We both have similar features with dark brown hair and green eyes but he is much bigger then me. I have a small frame and only stand at 5'. He's almost 6' tall and isn't done growing yet.

My mom left my room shortly after talking to me telling me to come down for my special birthday breakfast. Ever since I was a kid I dreaded celebrating my birthday. I dragged my body out of bed and looked in the mirror. I look terrible. I have huge bags under my eyes and my hair is a mess. I've been dreading this day since I was young. I'm finally eighteen and today might be the day I find my mate.

My birthday breakfast was not terrible but then again, I did not want to celebrate today. I was perfectly ok with dying alone at this point, I have heard so many horror stories about people and their mates and being rejected. I would rather just avoid the whole situation.

My friend Stella picked me up on her way to school.  Stella has been my best friend since kindergarten. We are practically inseparable. Stella turned eighteen two months ago, she found her mate the day of her birthday. I have never seen her happier.

"So Malia, today is the big day! You'll find your forever somebody. Aren't you excited! I'm excited!". Stella was practically screaming the whole ride to school about how excited her was for me. Everybody seemed so excited for me but I just didn't feel it at all. I was ready to go home before the day even started. I started to fall asleep in Stella's car until she started singing and screaming Drake's new album. Today is gonna be a long day. I am dreading walking into the building with the risk of my mate being in there.

********************************************
The first half of my day went by crazy fast and I'm very grateful it did. So far I haven't found my mate but then again to haven't been looking. During lunch, Stella and I went to find our group of friends. For the most part the lunch room was split up into different sections. All the humans sat in one sections, all the werewolfs sat in other. There was also another table that was half filled with Lycans. But nobody really talked about them. They were big, gorgeous and very dangerous. Everybody knew not to mess with them, even the humans who didn't know what they were.

After grabbing my lunch, I was walking towards my table when a boy ran right into me. I started to pick up my lunch when I glanced up at him, he was looking up at something else with pure fear in his eyes. I quickly grabbed all of my stuff to stand up and see what he was looking at. One of the lycans had our soon to be alpha in a choke hold. Jake, who was soon to be alpha of our pack was a trouble maker. Although we were good friends he liked to cause problems with people for fun.

I sped over to my table where all my friends were sitting. I whispered to Alyscia who was sitting next to me. "What did he do this time, lunch started five minutes ago, there's no way he could have pissed somebody off that quickly" my voice was as quietly as possible so nobody else could hear me. Alyscia shrugged her shoulders. "All the sudden Christian came up and grabbed Jake, there was nothing leading up to it" she replied back a little louder then she should have. I gave her the death stare when she replied. The last thing I needed was this Lycan to come after a bunch of girls. I looked over at him, he was so handsome. He was tall with dark hair and dark brown eyes. As Alyscia said, his name was Christian. It truly fit him.

The principal showed up a couple minutes after the whole fight started and broke it up. Both boys had to go down to the office but at separate times so there wasn't another fight. Christian was taken to the office first. Jake came and sat down next to all of us, he had a big bruise on his cheek but he was still smiling like a fool.

"Hello beautiful girls, does anybody know what I did this time because I truly don't think I actually did anything" he laughed as he said the last sentence. Jake was almost 6' tall with bright green eyes and blonde hair. Jake and I have been good friends since we were little. I looked at him, "maybe your face just pisses people off and that's why everybody wants to fight you", my tone was wise but he knew I was joking. Jake wrapped his arms around me and whispered into my ear, "you can't even talk because you still haven't found your mate today, but you know where to find me if you can't find him". He stood up before I could even answer, I glanced back to watch him walk away with the assistant principal, as I was turned around I noticed the Lycan table staring at me. I turned back to my friends and trying to ignore it. Maybe they were staring at somebody behind me. They definitely weren't staring at me.
