"Hey! Serria!" I heard someone shout from behind me. Expecting it to be Lina I turned around only to find Jay, the prince of popularity , somehow talking to me. "Wait up!"
I slowed my pace down but didn't stop completely. Fortunately he was one of the nicer popular kids so not waiting for him wouldn't be that big of a deal. I finally heard rushed foot steps catch up to me.

"Well you seemed in a hurry. Can I ask why?" I said eyeing his letterman jacket. Another patch had been added. This kid must work his ass of  to get all of these.

"Yeah,I have phy-ed today and I'm late.  I might as well have a good excuse." He shrugged passing Mr. Garson waving him away like a fly. Most kids could do that to Mr.Garson. He was the one teacher who's class was free period the entire hour and never told kids no. Some kids liked him while others didn't. Rei hated him especially. "Did you hear? We are getting a new kid."

"Huh,we never get new kids.Do you know where he is from? That way we could at least prepair them for winter." I asked.

It was a tradition at our school. If there was a new kid from out of state we would over re-act about snowstorms and living in Minnesota. Last year we got a couple kids from Syria and Germany. For that week both Jay and I and dressed up in American flags and used northern accents. We told them about the abominable snowman and tater tot hot dishes. We even convinced the german kid that he could climb a mountain in the summertime because it got so cold at night the rain from earlier in the day would instantly freeze on the grass blades. The look on his face was priceless. Some of the other kids caught on and dressed up in red, white, and blue and learned all of the american accents. Northern, southern, west coast, eastcoast, jersey shore,New York, you name it someone probably had it.

Minnesota happens to have the coldest, harshest winters in the states, besides Alaska. One year our winter was colder than theirs. No joke.

"Arizona...I think? I'm not sure. That's just what I overheard during orchestra." Every time I hear him talk about orchestra I laugh a little inside. He seemed to popular or athletic to be in orchestra.

"Maybe we could get him to wear a Minnesota's flag as a cape. That would be awsome!" I said remembering when we did, eventually we got a couple kids from the south to do it to. Once again the tradition was a big deal to the school. If we could get a flag cape on someone our mission was successful.

"Here is my stop."He said taking a left as I took a right. "Wish me luck I heard Boler is mad today."
"Good luck" I shouted across the hall as he disappeared into the boys locker room.
