Hayley stood with her back against the wall, while impatiently tapping her foot on the carpeted floor. It made a muffled sound but it was loud nonetheless. Eli sat on the couch, obviously bothered by Hayley's tapping."What are you so anxious about anyway?" Eli finally said. She had noticed Hayley look so furious and tense at the same time.
"My mother sent me on this mission to kill someone. I didn't get to kill anyone."
Eli looked shocked but it was followed by a chuckle, "and...that sucks?"
"Definitely."
Eli found Hayley quite peculiar although, she was quite the same. She did enjoy the fun and thrill in murder. Maybe we have something in common. Eli thought.
Just as Eli opened her mouth, The Lioness herself entered the room. Hayley straightened up with her arms crossed across her chest.
"Who's this? And why is she alive."
Eli felt the coldness in the Lioness's tone. Almost as if stared down upon Satan himself. Eli remained calm and did not show any fear towards the Lioness, she sat there with an apologetic smile on her face.
"She's not the thief. She came to return the stuff." Hayley tossed the bag of weapons to her mother, who caught it easily.
"Return? What district are you from?"
"The fifth ma'am." Eli responded, trying to sound polite for once in her life. She attempted to sir up straight but that was the straightest she could be.
"Ah. I recognize that face of yours anywhere, you're Evelyn's daughter. Am I right?"
Eli nodded. Hayley remained stoic in the corner and just listened to their conversation, she had to distract herself with something. She had to kill.
"You see, my brother is...clepto. And we can't stop—"
"Oh no it's okay, we understand. As long as we have these back it's alright. You may go now, tell your mother I said hi." The Lioness, surprisingly giddy for a moment, said as she lets Eli exit the room.
"tell Vincent to have her brought back home."
Hayley nodded and walked out with eli following closely behind.
Eli, from behind, observed Hayley. She looked like her age. A bit smaller but she seemed like 15 already. Somehow Eli was bothered about how she walks, talks and looks. It looks forced. What she couldn't get more is why she's in a black suit and still wearing a half mask. She didn't act her age.
"Why are you still wearing your mask?" Eli asked and ran to catch up to her side. Hayley didn't answer and just kept walking. "You do realize it covers like half of your face, and the other side is visible. Right?" Hayley remained quiet, entertaining Eli wasn't going to distract her from her twitching hands that are begging to get some work done.
"You don't talk much." Eli said, stating the obvious, she was trying to get on Hayley's nerves so that she would show a tad bit of emotion, but she was failing.
"Know what would be nice?"
Hayley glanced at Eli on her side, "knowing your name. I told you mine and you didn't tell me yours so that would be rude."
"If I told you my name would ya' shut up?" Hayley, finally pissed. Responded to Eli."Hayley." She spoke softly, it was nothing compared to Eli's voice. Loud and bold. But for some reason it made a loud impact on Eli.
"Hayley..." Eli trailed on and liked how the name rolled off her tongue. She did a small laugh and glanced at Hayley. She looked confused.
"I just thought of Paramore. You know Hayley Williams. Lead singer?"
"Yeah, I'm aware of that. They're one of my favorites." Despite the humungous lack of proper intonation in Hayley's voice, Eli could tell she meant it and it wasn't pure "sarcasm".
"Me too!" Eli boomed once again, Hayley sported a half smile then looked straight ahead.
They got to the limo and Eli entered."Oi Hayley."
Hayley turned around and faced the peculiar girl, who she still not trusts due to the 'thief incident'.
"We should hang out sometime." Eli smiled, hoping Hayley would agree to it.
"I'll think about it." Hayley said and walked back in the mansion. She took a deep breath and continued walking to her room. If she wanted to go kill, she had to sneak out and sneaking out would mean disobeying her mother.
Eli popped out of nowhere and smiled widely. "On second thought, let's hang out right now." Hayley staggered backwards as Eli jumped down right in front of her.
"Where to?"
"Wanna go kill somebody?"
Now Hayley was interested. Eli was surprised at how Hayley grimaced. A wry smile spread across her face and that was the first time Eli saw an actual expression on her face besides half-done smiles and occasional chuckles.
Maybe a few broken rules won't hurt too bad. Hayley thought.
She took out a hoodie and some jeans then got dressed in her room. Eli waited downstairs and scrolled through her phone.
Hayley slid down the marble railing of the staircase and landed gracefully on her feet. Eli looked up and smiled,
"Finally wore something normal for once, congratulations."
Hayley rolled her eyes and placed a couple knives in her ankle brace then pulled her hoodie up.
"You're still wearing the mask though."
"Want one? I have a spare one in the weaponry."
"I don't like white."
"dont worry, it's black." Hayley scoffed.
Eli was surprised at how she was finally showing emotions. She just scoffed. That's a start.
Hayley returned minutes after and tossed the mask to her.
"Half?"
"It's the mask of Thalia and Melpomene. Both goddesses. Thalia's the happy one and Melpomene's the sad one. So I made two half masks. It was originally full but I decided half was better."
Eli was still surprised at how she had said multiple words in a statement and surprised at the fact that her mask had meaning.
"That's awesome. How do you know those things?"
"I love mythology." With the katana hung around her back Hayley and Eli walked outside.
"So I'll ask again, where to?"
