It was drumming of her heart and the actual drumming of drums that was getting Delilah anxious. School had gone well as usual- she was of course a straight A student who did not need to put a lot of effort into work. Except when it came to music.  She nervously began to throttle her poor violin as the audition line got shorter and shorter. Soon it would be her turn to go to the musical director and try out. She was not an actress for sure. She could barely pretend or act out anything. But it was the musical and they needed an orchestra for it be stellar.

She took a deep breath before placing her violin in its plush case. She opened her backpack and allowed others to go on the line. She would wait. After all, she wasn't need at home this very second anyway. The wrinkled math homework fluttered out of her leather backpack. She frowned as she glanced at the number before her heart did a little flutter also.

Should she call him? Call The Luke? She took out her Nokia but hastily put it back in her coat. He just wanted to get a good grade and nothing else.

It was a nerve wrecking half hour before Delilah finally got called by the director. She flung her homework on the seat but carefully picked up her violin. It was her treasure. Her parents could not afford that treasured ,but after months of babysitting she had managed to buy it herself. Of course the sleek violin had cost an overwhelming amount of money, but it was worth it.

"Ah,Delilah. I was starting to wonder of you were going to audition or not!" Mr. Asbury bellowed cheerfully. He was short ,but don't get that wrong. He was always a cheerful man-when he wanted to be.

Delilah laughed easily, " Of course I was going to audition." Mr. Asbury nodded with that smile that seemed to be glued on his face. Delilah began to play her audition song  calmly when Mr. Asbury interrupted her. Surprised, she automatically stopped.

" Delilah, I know you can play already." It was the way he phrased that sentence that made Delilah worry. Was he going to not let her play? " Your orchestra teacher, Mr. Labelle, unfortunately cant lead he orchestra though." Did that mean that she couldn't play, still?

Mr. Asbury shook his head. " He recommended that you lead the orchestra. will you? I understand if you don't-" Mr. Asbury was cut off when Delilah hugged him tightly and vigorously nodded her head.

" Legit??" she asked excitedly. Mr. Asbury laughed gently and nodded as well. beaming, he handed Delilah a folder with all the instrument parts before she bounced to put her violin away.

Best.Day.Ever., Delilah thought exuberantly as she walked home. The chill nipped at her nose and importuned to get attention. Delilah didn't even notice that. She was happy. And that's really what mattered.

Her house fell four blocks away from the high school. In fact, it would most likely take longer to drive to the school than walk. Not like she would drive in the first place. She knew how to of course ,but she didn't have a car. Her dad wasn't home all the time for he had to work. Her mom was always dropping up her younger sibling Clara places.

Clara barely slept the nights at her own house. She normally had sleepovers with her friends or family. She had grown a lot of friends for a 5th grader. So Delilah was not surprised to not find her sibling home. She was surprised though, to find her dad home.
