So this is my first story I've written on Wattpad so sorry if it's bad. I'm not that good at writing. I'm trying to get better though:/ but I stil hope you enjoy it!
TPPOV:
As she sat there, naked and tired, she started to slowly drift off into a sleep that she most likely would not wake up from. Seconds after her eyes had closed, she heard the faint sound of footsteps coming closer to her.
Thinking it was a corpse, she curled tighter into her small body ball, letting out a tiny whimper. Her muscles were tense and her body was slightly shaking, as three words were softly spoken into her ear and almost instantly relaxed her.
"Are you okay?" Her eyelids strained to open to barely peek, but seeing a boy that looked about her age and was not particularly unattractive, made it worth it. His voice seemed like it is in between the before and after stages of puberty.
He was wearing a faded plaid shirt with a dark navy blue T-shirt and a dirty, white tank top underneath it. His jeans were ripped in several places, including at the bottom of one leg where the hem of the jeans met the top of his muddy, brown work boots. His eyes were a mesmerizing light blue color with a darker blue line tracing the lighter color.
"W-who are you? What do you want with me?" she quietly stuttered, having a hint of an Australian accent. She tried to sit up a little bit while still covering her private areas with her arms and legs.
"I'm not going to hurt you. What's your name? I'm Carl."
"Maxeline. Or-or just Maxi." He gave a little smile and let out the smallest chuckle.
"If I may ask, what happened to you?"
"Well, for your information, you may ask all you want, but will not get an answer any time soon," she stated with a very weak, and tired, but attitudey voice.
("attitudey" is a word now).
He smiled and looked over his shoulder and around.
Just give her your shirt, idiot!
His thoughts were bombarded with orders.
"U-um, here." He inched forward a bit then started removing his plaid shirt, then took of his T-shirt He folded them both up and put them before her. "Put these on." With the look of still uncertainty in her face, he snickered, then smirked.
"Fine. If you want me to turn around, I will. Just put those on. You don't want to be walking around here all naked and stuff." He turned around, nudged his hat down over his eyes, then casually placed his hands on the back of his neck, and let his arms hang in front of him.
Using the tree for support, she slowly pulled herself up until she was leaning against the tree, facing him. Keeping her eyes on him, just to make sure he didn't look, she bent down and picked up the two shirts.
The fragrance of the clothes raided her nose as she cautiously unfolded them. It smelt like sweat that was actually kind of covered by the aroma of cologne. It also had a hint of what seemed to be... peppermint?
She took the plaid shirt's sleeves and wrapped them around her waist, then tied them in a knot on her hip, making sure it covered everything. Then, she took the blue T-shirt and slipped it on and pulled her long hair, that was kind of a mix between light brown and auburn, out from under the shirt's collar.
Peeking over his shoulder, making sure she was decently clothed, he turned around and looked at her. Her naturally curled hair hung down and covered half her face, leaving a shy and mysterious impression.
He moved toward her, making her lean into the tree and grasp it with more discomfort. He took his left hand, and gently pushed the loose hair behind her ear, and grinned.
"There. Now that you can see what's around you better; you can be more prepared for surprises. Plus, a face like yours shouldn't be hidden." As an instant reaction from that last statement, she flushed a bright red-ish pink and sheepishly looked the ground.
"Come on. I have a place you can stay, it's safe."
"I can't walk. I twisted my ankle running. That's why I was just laying there when you found me."
"Can you try?" She looked down at her feet. Nervously, she lifted one foot, put it in front of her, and stepped down.
Because of her ankle's fragility from the injury, it snapped and sent her rushing to the ground. She let out a yelp, from the sharp pain, that was muffled by her attempt to keep her mouth shut. Carl was quickly at her side and supported her so she could sit up.
"Well, that's not gonna work," he said grinning and quickly glancing at her face, holding a pained expression with fresh tears in her eyes.
Taking a moment to think, he lifted her up into his arm, bridal style, and then started to walk.
"Sorry about my weight," she said looking as if she was guilty from taking too many cookies from the cookie jar.
"Nah. You're light as a feather." A smile tugged at her lips as she looked into the deep blue eyes, that belonged to Carl Grimes.
"If we happen to run into some walkers, I'll have to put you down quick, though."
"Walkers? That's what they're called?"
"That's what we call 'em."
"We?"
"Me and my group. We're set up in a huge prison a little ways out."
«¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦»
After a while of walking, Carl stopped at a group of oddly formed trees. Setting her down gently against one tree, he decided to rest against another which sat directly across from her, his chest moving up and down at a heavy and steady pace.
"Are you tired?" she teased, sending him a smirk.
"Yeah! It's not that easy carrying another person in your arms for half a mile." Smiling and laughing gently, he leaned back and slowly closed his eyes.
He hadn't slept much in three days, and he didn't want to fall asleep in the middle of nowhere with an injured girl he had just met with him, but he couldn't help it.
Once he relaxed after a couple of minutes, he was fast asleep, and this wasn't the average 5-10 minute nap.
"Help!! Carl, help me!" He slowly opened his eyes to see Maxi a couple yards away underneath two walkers with branch about an inch wide between her and them.
