Nightmares

December 02; Midnight

My eyes snaps open at the sudden cries that echoed in my ears. I wake up to a dark surrounding, reeking of blood and sweat. I can hear swift movements around me, battle cries, and painful cries. And I notice that I am on the ground, lying down. I quickly stand and run to where it was safe. But nowhere was this battle ground safe enough.

I can see hundreds of men lying dead on the floor and fighting the others, but they didn’t look like men. They look like monsters. I can see their teeth elongated. Fangs, I think to myself. I can see the bloodlust in their movements, in their eyes as I accidentally made contact with one, but it ignored me. I’m not sure if these living creatures were human. So I just have to go with referring to them as it.

I try not to panic as I find a safe shelter for me to stay in. Why am I even here in the first place, I don’t know. This must be my dream’s idea of a joke.

My feet double its speed as I see a huge house appearing in my sight. I feel a sudden wave of relief as I reach the porch and my hand made contact with the doorknob. I twist it open, and enter. I gulp and slowly walk inside the silent house.

“Hello,” I call out, but nothing. And I try again. Multiple times really. But I was suddenly sucked into a vortex of some sort and lost my balance and fell.

I could hear so many cries.

And then when my world stopped spinning.

I saw my mom and my dad, but they were bleeding.

“Mom,” I manage to scream out. “Dad!”

I run towards them but I fly away, hitting the wall. It’s like there’s a barrier around them, and I can’t go near my parents. And then I saw an innocent looking woman holding a knife, speaking to them, yet I can’t even seem to decipher what she was saying. It sounded so distant.

“Mom… dad…” I choke on my words as I notice my parents lying in their own blood.

“Scarlet, wake up!” I hear a voice scream as a man, who looks awfully familiar, cradles my mother on his arms. Who is he? Why is he calling her Scarlet?

“Mom!” I scream once more, and everything went black.
