Epilogue
It's been almost two months since Jeremiah's arrest, and nothing seems to be the same any more. The horrifying revelation hit us so hard, it caused the separation between us close friends, but it hit Rob the hardest. The ghost of a smile on his face was shadowed, and he was never the same anymore. Not only that, I haven't seen Nate since that time, and I missed him a lot.
"This skirt is so cute!" Lisa gushed, holding up a baby pink fluffy skirt. "It'll be so adorbs on the baby."
"You don't even know if it's a boy or girl yet." I told her, snatching the skirt and putting it back on the rack. "We're here for the essentials only, diapers and pacifiers..."
It was the afternoon, and we were both out shopping for baby things. Her baby bump was already showing between her thin waist, a little bump was prominent. Lisa and I were still the same, though we never talk about the incident. She, as well as I, haven't spoken properly to Rob. Maybe he needs some space to sort things out and heal some more.
A beep sounded on Lisa's phone as we walked on the pavement outside the mall, heading toward the baby warehouse. She glanced up from her screen, an odd smirk playing on her lips. I leaned forward toward the phone, she stepped back, looking stern.
"Who is that, Craig?" I said, wiggling my eyebrows as she pocketed her phone, eyes gleaming.
"None of your business," she said, walking along. "Not yet, anyway."
I bit my lip. "What's the supposed to mean?" I was kind of intrigued. Was she up to something that involved me?
Lisa smiled deviously. "It doesn't mean anything," she said evasively. "Oh, look at those cute shorts!"
After shopping for baby things, we went back inside the mall to purchase some things for us. I needed new clothes, all my clothes at home looked worn out. Lisa entered a rather lavish store. Inside were glittering wall papers and expensive but extravagant dresses. Everything Lisa tried on was too tight for her, even with the baby bump.
Frustrated, she sat down on the bench in the store, looking longingly at the dress she wanted to buy. "God, This dress was so gorgeous... Soon." she added at the dress, and stood up and put it back on the designated rack. Her eyes suddenly shot up, she turned to me, looking excited.
"What?" I said, alarmed. She was holding something behind her. Slowly, she held up a sumptuous revealing black mini dress.
"This," she breathed. "Would look so good on you."
I took it from her, examining it. It would, indeed, look good on me and when I tried it on, it was fit in all the right places and really made my butt look curvy and accentuated.
I looked in the mirror, my long mahogany brown hair framing my face. Lisa came up behind me and said loudly, "You have to buy it. And you could wear to my cousin's Anna's birthday!"
I smiled, pondering whether or not to spend half my pay-check on this very expensive dress, but Lisa looked so happy and I couldn't wash that off, so I bought it.
Late that afternoon, Adrian persuaded me to come to a beach party with him and Diana. I thought against it- I didn't really want to go partying. Eventually I did go anyway. If I stayed home too much, depression will slowly eat me away inside, and remembering all too much about how things are now will torment me. So getting out was the best thing to do and besides, it was a lovely day.
"Dress nicely." my brother Adrian said, texting away on his phone whilst pouring a drink for Diana who was sitting comfortably in the living room, reading a book before we go.
