Levi was awoken the next morning by sunlight glaring through the broken blinds, shining directly in his eyes. Initially, he was confused, familiar with the room but not how he had arrived there. He glanced at the small, sleeping form beside him, audibly groaning in exasperation at the sight. What had he gotten himself into now?
Cautiously, he climbed out of the bed, trying to be as discreet as possible as he began picking his clothes up off the floor. He normally wasn't the type to flee after such a night, but he felt even more confused than he was initially. He had known this was a bad idea; why had he agreed to it anyway? He knew the answer, but he hated that he didn't even have to be drunk for his inhibitions to be lowered. As long as it involved her, all logic seemed to dissipate.
While pulling on his clothes, Levi clumsily stubbed his toe against the bed frame, instinctively letting out a yelp of pain and cursing aloud. He quickly covered his mouth, eyes darting to the girl still asleep in her bed, praying to whatever higher power that she would stay asleep.
Reina began to stir after hearing the small outburst, rolling over to face him in tired confusion. She yawned before giving him a confused look, propping herself up on her elbows. "Levi? Are you okay? What are you doing?"
He looked down at himself, his jeans only half buttoned, one sock still nowhere to be found, one sockless foot in a shoe somehow, and his shirt pulled halfway over his head. He struggled to find words to explain this. "Well, uh....I was getting ready to go get some breakfast, but I kinda...forgot how to get dressed?"
The brunette laughed, rolling her eyes playfully. "Silly boy. You should have woken me up! I'll come with you. We can go to the diner downtown your parents used to drag us to all the time. Just give me a minute to get ready."
Levi couldn't protest, instead remaining silent, watching as she grabbed some clothes and scurried out of the room. He finally fixed his clothes, putting everything on correctly and sighing to himself. "You're an idiot, Levi. A big, stupid, idiot." He whispered, tying his snow boots.
Once she was ready, the two tiptoed quietly out of the house, actively avoiding the questioning eyes of her family. The car ride conversation on the way to the diner was pleasant, albeit lackluster, as both were still fighting off sleepiness. She linked arms with him as they walked to the door, and he tried to shy away from her touch, but couldn't bring himself to. The quaint diner was virtually empty, only a few elderly couples dispersed throughout the wide space. They were seated in a corner booth, and Levi remained quiet. He knew that he couldn't skirt around the issue anymore, that something had to be addressed and figured out before his head exploded. He just didn't know how to bring it up.
Reina ordered a coffee for herself, and he watched as she added some cream and sugar absentmindedly, seemingly hypnotized by her spoon stirring. He snapped out of his reverie, looking back at her intently. "How's the hangover?" He asked suddenly, noticing how unnaturally cheerful she was despite being hammered enough to slur her words the night before. Had she been lying to him? Did he fall for it? What exactly was he falling for?
She took a sip of her coffee and shrugged, gazing at him with a small, tired smile. "I don't really have much of one. I usually don't get them very bad. I'm very lucky."
He knew she seemed sincere, but he couldn't bring himself to believe her words. He didn't know anything about drinking, but he knew that there had to be more of a hangover. That's what happened on TV, anyway. He didn't have much else to base it off of. "Well, you were fairly drunk last night. I just thought you'd be more miserable today. You were slurring your words, probably saying stuff you didn't mean. Y'know, What drunk people normally do."
