1st Recon Barracks -OPB, 0843 (Chapter 1)

The only thing I could see was sand, tired souls, and light. The camp had recently been attacked by a raiding party consisting of Legionnaires from Caesar's Legions 3rd Cohort. The shit hole we call OPB (Old Military elf for Outpost and then it's name. For example this is OPB for Outpost Bishop) is inhabited by the NCR's 1st Recon. Sure the camp has the best unit in all of the Mojave desert the but we had taken one hell of a beating. Out of the 60 soldiers stationed here, 35 of us remained. Not a single soul in our outpost could take another hit like the night before. Or at least I thought so.

I placed the pen down beside the sheet of paper as Lieutenant Dan walked in.

"Lieutenant!" As if it was instincts kicking in, my legs sprung into action, launching me into a standing position. At the same time, my right hand pulled upward and rested on the side of my beret.

"At ease gentlemen." The drape that rested on his shoulder fell down as he walked in and rested his arms on his back. My arms also dropped but to my sides.

"Alright, I just received orders from FOB (More old military elf for Forwarding Operating Base) Foxtrot. They want me to send three of my best soldiers on a classified mission. I'm choosing you, Mark, because I know you're my best eyes. It was true and I'm happy because I know I can't deny it. I have great vision. Back in basic, I got 52 out of 55 points in the spotting course.

"Sir, may I ask who else is going?"

The lieutenant smirked before answering me.

"Negative Corporal. But at 0930, Colonel Allan McIntyre is going to stop by via Vertibird.

"Bullshit! There's no way a top brass is going scoff his leathers just to talk to some unknown soldiers. Hell, just down the hill I swear there's a nest full of radscorpions! Does he think we can actually defend him?"

"Yes actually. We're part of the best goddamn unit in all of the NCR." The soldier nodded and sat back down to continue his card game. The lieutenant saluted before walking out of the tent.
