We shook our heads. I couldn't think of opening presents with all the memories that were resurfacing.

It was just overwhelming.

Connor saw the look on my face and knew.

While Connor stayed to talk to our grandparents I decided to head out the back, to the garden which backed on to the woods. I heard a distant howl.

2 Hours later...

"Kerensa! Kerensa, where are you?"

I stare back up at the ceiling of my new room. Maybe this one will last longer, I mean after all they are family.

I wonder about my parents sometimes, what they looked like when they smiled. I can't really remember them much now, they have faded in my mind. I wish they had never gotten in that car that night. I sometimes wonder what would have happened if I could've made them stay in and have a family night. I regret not telling them I loved them that night. I was just soo mad at them, I don't even remember what about anymore. I wish I could just take it back.

"Kerensa! Gran's being calling out for you for 20 minutes, what have you been doing?"

"Connor, I'll be down in a second."

"Are you pumpkin?"

"Yeah I'll be pumpkin."

(pumpking was our code instead of asking if we are okay)

As I watch Connor leave the room, I wipe away the tears from my eyes. I grab my navy blue hoodie and walk downstairs to the dining room.

"Oh, there you are Kerensa. I was wondering where'd you gone to. Anyway dinner's almost ready, I hope you're hungry."

I sat down at the table and opened mercy and continued to read until dinner was ready.

Dinner was nice. Grandma and Grandpa told us stories of their trips around the world.

Then I helped clean up before going outside.

I always loved the fresh air, but something about this place it felt like there was something else. I couldn't put my finger on it.

I decided to head back inside before it got too late.

Over the next couple of weeks Connor and I got settled in and we decided to go explore our new town.

"Come on Connor! I want to go see the library."

"We will, just be patient. It takes time to look this hot."

"Gah! Yeah right. You're ugly to me."

I hear stomping footsteps coming towards me.

Yes I won that round!

"Bye Grandma. Bye Grandpa"

"Bye dears be back in time for dinner okay."

As we entered the small town I noticed that most of the town was abandoned.
