Love is a strange thing
How can a chemical reaction have so much of an effect on so many people?
Its a drug and we are all addicts
It doesn't tear our bodies apart though, like heroin or cocaine
It does so much worse
Love tears our hearts apart
We relish our addictions and tell our children about it
We raise their hopes and tell them stories about Prince charming and how perfect the world could be
Just for them to grow up and realize life isn't a fairy tale
Some will grow up to be hurt by love over and over again
To cry themselves to sleep over lost chances and what could have been
while others will search for love and find it straight away
and that's the cruelty of our society
that we tell ourselves that we must be perfect
that we must wear a mask that we have to hide our true selves in the chances it will make someone fall in love with us
so that we won't feel so useless and lonely
that we must have something wrong with us if people don't want to be with us
but that's our society
The reality of all of this is, you don't need someone else to want you to be perfect, life isn't a fairy tale and the most important thing of all
Love yourself
