'You'll always be a comedy in a woman's eyes.' Elspeth Wood is an ambitious and cynical governess working for the wealthy Yew family. When she receives a royal invitation to compose an allegory for Prince Adrian's marriage competition, she submits a sharp and subversive line critiquing the monarchy. What follows is a historical fantasy with elements of a Regency comedy of manners and Gothic drama. The short story explores themes of ambition vs. social expectations; agency and self-definition; class, wealth and revolution; and isolation, cynicism and emotional detachment. 'Better a Monster Than a Nobody' is perfect for admirers of Jane Austen's 'Emma' and 'Pride and Prejudice' and Charlotte Brontë's 'Jane Eyre'.

A collection of poems made by yours truly, depicting depression, cynicism, and ultimately sadness. However, at some point, there just may be a lively poem among the dark ones.

This is a short collection of poetry I am in the process of writing during Covid-19 lockdown. I've recently rediscovered my love of poetry and expression in writing within the isolation, boredom and renewed depression brought on by quarantine. I don't necessarily want this to be seen as a totally negative work as the expression of all of these feelings has been cathartic. The emotions, however dark and sad have an overwhelming desire to go somewhere other than my brain, and in releasing them into this format, I feel such a weight lifted.

I Wrote is a playful, satirical take on fantasy tropes, blending absurd humor with surreal imagery. It subverts traditional expectations-knights, dragons, goblins, and demons all behave in ways that defy their usual roles, engaging in mundane or unexpected activities. The poem explores themes of creative frustration, narrative unpredictability, and the absurdity of storytelling, as the speaker struggles to shape a conventional fantasy tale but finds their characters resisting typical genre conventions. The final stanza hints at self-reflection, suggesting that creativity itself is an unpredictable force, much like the strange runes of the mind.

In Shadows and Echoes, life unfolds in shades of irony, love bleeds into loss, and struggle becomes a silent war within. This collection of short stories delves into the lives of characters trapped between hope and despair, desire and resignation, survival and self-destruction. Told with sharp sarcasm and a dark, unflinching gaze, each story is a mirror reflecting the contradictions of existence-how love can be both salvation and curse, how ambition can devour the soul, how the human heart clings to meaning even in the face of inevitable ruin. These are not tales of heroes, but of flawed, restless souls grappling with choices that haunt them, battles they cannot escape, and dreams that sometimes suffocate more than they liberate. With writing that cuts deep and lingers long after the last page, Shadows and Echoes is an exploration of the human condition in its rawest, most bittersweet form-where even the smallest decisions can shape a lifetime, and where every whisper of hope is shadowed by the weight of reality.

And yet it seems it is the way of this world that the lowliest of men, shall be the lowliest only at God's approval! And look out, look for yourself.! We have been approved, given the right to wallow and moan of our misery! Shalt I cry? Shalt I? What an honour we've been bestowed, the honour of wretchedness!
