The building which housed the many offices of YJ Entertainment was a towering skyscraper, its pinnacle obscured by the hovering clouds.
Detective Park whistled at the sight of it, the glassy exterior encapsulating a breath-taking interior. The two men walked in, making their way towards the front desk.
“We’d like to meet Joo Jung Hyuk. He’s the CEO, isn’t he?” Park inquired.
The receptionist, a short, black haired woman looked up at him. “I’m sorry but you can’t see him without an appointment.” she sounded apologetic.
Lee pulled out his badge at which the woman’s eyes widened. "What is this about?” she asked nervously.
“I think you’ll find it in the best interests of your agency to inform Mr Joo that we need to speak with him. Now.” Park answered straight-faced.
The woman winced at his tone and quickly placed a call, following which the two detectives were escorted to the CEO’S office, a large suite of rooms overlooking the Han river.
Joo Jung Hyuk was younger than Park had expected him to be. He was dressed in a light brown suit which complimented his carefully gelled hair. His beady black eyes gazed at the detectives steadily as he gestured for them to take a seat.
“And how may I help you?” he asked, pleasantly enough.
Detective Park placed a manila folder on the neatly-sorted desk and pulled out a dark screenshot of a figure seated in a black car, the bracelet around their wrist starkly standing out against the distorted backdrop.
“Recognize that? From what I know, it’s a customized design, exclusive to YJ.” he said, watching the man carefully.
Joo Jung Hyuk displayed no sign of surprise and merely nodded. “So it is." he replied evenly. “Have you barged into my office simply to ask me about a design half of the city would identify as YJ’s?”
The sarcasm wasn’t lost on Park as he sat back and smiled.
“Well, does half the city know that the individual wearing that bracelet is a person of interest in the case concerning Kim Nam Joon of BTS? And that Mr Kim was almost killed, presumably by this very person?”
The CEO straightened at that. “What’s that supposed to mean?” he asked sharply.
“I have a better question. Why don’t you provide us with a list of all the people who are currently in possession of this ‘exclusive’ ornament?” Lee asked him.
“Everyone in this building!” he said, incensed. “The bracelet is given to all employees, personnel and artists under the agency as a token of good will.”
He lifted his arm and there it was. The bracelet with YJ’s logo. “You see, I have it too.”
Park pushed the photo towards him. “Do you have any idea who this could be?” he asked.
Jung Hyuk shook his head. “It’s too blurred for me to make out any distinctive features. But if they had it, then they were-"
“Probably under this agency, artist or employee.” Lee finished for him. “And do you know what that looks like Mr Joo? It looks like your company has it out for Bangtan’s leader.” he said harshly.
Jung Hyuk shrugged, his cockiness beginning to return. “We have absolutely nothing against Bangtan or Big Hit. In fact, you’ll discover that we’re on pretty good terms.” he said confidently.
“Ah is that so? Then I’m pretty sure that you will have absolutely no qualms about submitting a list of all the employees and artists under your label so we can question them.” Park commented. “And I don’t think I need to remind you of the consequences of your refusal.” The warning was implicit in his voice.
