Dear Princess,

I just want to say this right now... I miss the castle. I can't stand it in this treacherous forest with its dark, ominous trees and its quiet, deadly silence. Thank the stars I am not out here alone. One of my old friends Sunburst hesitated at first, but gladly accepted this... well, "interesting" invitation. I also have Applejack and Fluttershy here with me. I know Applejack is a brave mare, but I don't even know how you convinced Fluttershy to tag along with us. Speaking of which, it took a lot of persuasion to get Trixie to come. I swear she can be a huge pain in the plot sometimes. However, she is here now and trying to keep her sanity. Also there appears to be a guard who goes by the name of Flash Sentry. Honestly, I could care less if he were to lose his sense of direction. At least I have Maud around. She is somepony who I can really trust. She showed no fear when I asked her to come. Actually, I am not sure if she has any emotions at all. Anyway, what are we even doing out here? You keep on saying "it's for research" but what is even out here that is worth dying to see and jot down in a book? All I see is death, strange flowers, and more death. Not to mention the strange weather patterns. Without the pegasi controlling the clouds and whatnot, the Everfree seems weirder than any other place I have seen before. Luckily, we were able to set up our tents before the rain began. It looks like everypony's going right to sleep, so I guess I should join them so I won't be a cranky doodle in the morning. Goodnight, Princess.

Your Apprentice,
Starlight Glimmer
