In Search Of The Elusive Mermaid

CHAPTER 1/GRATITUDE

Samuel reached the shore safely....he laid there on the sand...feeling grateful...he realized that he was about to meet his maker....he started to throw up...he was on his knees... silently giving a prayer of gratitude to his higher power...he stood slowly...feeling a  bit woozy....turned to look at the water....it was as if nothing had happened...for a moment he wondered if all of this was just a dream....a bad dream...but it was not...he still felt the pain on his wrist where this thing grabbed a hold of him....Sam was never one to ponder anything...but now...he sat there thinking....he looked around and there was nobody in sight.... he would have gone missing and no one would even imagine what had happened to him....he would have been just statistics....and people would assume other alternatives for my disappearance and forget this ever happened...some friends he knew came across his mind...friends that were lost at sea...he wondered could this be why...he stood slowly brushed himself off and headed home

This experience moved him to the core...he made a vow not to continue living this life... he was thinking now about his mom...he wept as he walked...on arriving home his mother was in the kitchen making him coffee...she knew he would be out with his friends and would come in late...he rushed to her side hugging her real tight..."What's wrong hijo" inquired his mother....Sam was quiet for a moment he just held her for a little longer...then he said..."Madre...I am so sorry for all the pain I put you through...I will be a son you will be proud as of now" he bowed his head...His mother held him now..."I am proud of you son...no matter what" and they both stood there quietly.....Sam look at his mother "I can't tell you what happened to me...you will not believe...please don't insist...I will go to rest now......for tomorrow is another day.

Samuel...was 24 years old...single and lives with his mother...a total loser you would think....but Sam is about to embark on a journey...he could not have imagined...even in his wildest dreams ...living in a small town near the coast it was obvious that Sam too would one day be a fisherman..his father was missing from his life from the age of 5...everyone assumed he ran off with a younger women...his mother was a strong determined woman...she washed and cook for people in the town...raised him to the best of her abilities...at 14 years Sam was already going on fishing trips with the neighbors...he loved the sea...but all this led to bad habits of drinking, smoking and losing women....his mother would always pray for his safety...this went on all his life until that faithful day of the incident...that was about to change his life forever

Days later Samuel was out taking a walk trying to clear his head....he went to wharf...there he sat under a shed overlooking the sea...he wasn't ready to speak to anyone...as he observe the people walking around doing their own business he thought of his friend...Luis who on a fishing expedition had entered the water and never surfaced again..he was a better swimmer than he was...he thought of Don Juan the captain of his boat...he was aboard his boat making final preparations for the trip next day....that was last they saw of him...he remembered the day of the fair the town host every Easter...the two kids that went missing...he remembered the despair of the mother looking for her kids it was very sad...what if all of this is connected to what happened to him... and if it is how can he stop it...this is not a story you go and tell the authorities...he needed to think this through....then he realized something important...what if there were others...like him who had survived but the fear of ridiculed had forced them to remain quiet....he knew now what to do he had to find those people....he had to make them know.....he knew they would not reveal their secrets to him....unless they knew his.....and so it started...the quest to exposed the killer mermaids
