For those of you that don't know ROM is the Royal Ontario Museum and AGO is the Art Gallery of Ontario.
Dinner was quite as everyone ate. Every once in a while Twilan or one of the boys would glance at each other before looking away.
“How old are you guys?” Twilan asked, breaking the silence.
“17,” Kenji said.
“Our birthday is February 29th 1996,” Akira added.
“You guys are almost adults,” Twilan said, still trying to overcome her shock.
“How old are you?” Akira asked.
Twilan looked up and glared at him, “You don’t ask a woman her age.”
“Are you married?” Kenji asked.
“Yes.”
“Where is he?” Akira asked.
“He’s in the Navy. He’s in Iraq right now,” Twilan said going back to her dinner, ending the conversation.
After dinner, Kenji and Akira did the dishes while Twilan changed the sheets on the bed for the boys.
As the boys were getting ready for bed Twilan knocked on the door and waited to be allowed in.
“I have work tomorrow, are you okay staying by yourself?”
“We’ll be fine,” Kenji and Akira both said at the same time.
Twilan smiled and went to leave but before she could she turned back to face them and asked a question that has been bugging her.
“How did you find me?” she asked coming fully into the room and taking a seat in the chair by the closet.
Both boys stopped what they were doing and looked at each other before Kenji spoke.
“Chichi found a company that sold eggs and he saw your picture and guessed he thought you were pretty so he picked you and then found a lady to carry the pregnancy. But we wanted to know who our biological mother was. The person we got the other half of our DNA from.”
“So we found your file from the company and tracked down where you worked. Once we found you we came,” Akira finished.
Twilan looked down trying to hold her emotions in, after a few moments she looked back up at them with a smile and told them to not stay up to late, and that when they do wake up she’ll have left for work.
They said goodnight to each other as the boys climbed into bed with the TV on and Twilan walked out into the living room. She sat down and opened her laptop and sent an email to her husband before getting ready for bed herself.
The next morning Twilan got up and had to remind herself to be quitter then usual as she got ready, lest she wake the boys. She left a note for them with her cell number and the hospital number before she left.
While sitting on the train she was thinking of what to do. She already knew she needed to do some grocery shopping and then mentally groaned when she remembered that she had to solve the issue with the Fertility Company.
By the time Twilan walked into the lab she already had a headache forming and knew it was going to be a long day. The only Brightside was that she had the day off tomorrow. The day went like any other winter day in Toronto with accidents from the weather and normal health cases that she needed to do blood work for.
As the work day came to an end, Twilan made a stop in the hospital before leaving. She went to see one of the lawyers and asked him to look into the fertility company for her. On way home, she made a list of things to but from the grocery store which included food and some things for the boys. She also decided to get take out for dinner instead of cooking.
By the time Twilan got home around 8, she was dead on her feet and was having trouble opening the door, when out of nowhere, it was opened from the inside and Kenji, or was it Akira, took the bags from her. She gave the bag of stuff she bought them which included some winter hats and gloves, and personal hygiene products.
“I have a surprise for you,” Twilan said as they were getting ready for dinner.
They asked what it was, and when Twilan opened the bag of take out and pulled out Japanese food she smiled at the looks on their face.
“Figured you might be felling home sick,” she explained as she finished pulling everything out.
The barely said thanks before digging in. After dinner, as they were watching dinner Twilan told them that she had the day off tomorrow and told them they could go anywhere they wanted. Akira went into the room and came back out with a tourist package and said that he wanted to go to the ROM and the AGO.
