Chapter Three

I woke up that morning and everything was quiet.  Very unusual.  Especially for my brother.  "Brian!"  I call.  I look around the room.

"Brian!"  I see that the computer is on, so I get out of bed and check it out.  I tell myself that Brian probably just got up before me this time.  A once in a lifetime thing, but it's possible.

The computer is on this gaming website that we love.  The game's music is playing, the screen is paused, and in a square box it says  "Player Two, Join Game."

I've never seen that before on this game.  And I've been playing this game for about a year.  I look around the room, and then click  "Yes."

The  "achievement"  music plays, and swirls and sparkles appear on the screen.  "Welcome, Player Two!"  The man's voice says.

I place my hand firmly on the computer mouse, ready to rapidly fire tomatoes at the evil flowers--  and then suddenly I'm devoured by swirling wind and sparkles.

I suddenly realize, just before I disappear from the real world, that those aren't sparkles, but pixels.
