I groaned. Where was I?
My head hurt like heck, and my body felt heavy.
Opening my eyes, I looked around to see Darren staring intently at me. I was placed on a bed of palm leaves.
"Where am I?" I furrowed my eyebrows in thought.
"You don't remember?" He asked cautiously.
I shook my head.
In fact, I didn't really remember much from yesterday.
All I remember was getting ready to fish, grabbing my knife, admiring the ocean, seeing Gabby..
I gasped and shot up. "Oh my god! Gabby! She...I..she.." I rambled.
Gabby tried to kill me! I was panting really hard. I almost died!
Darren placed an arm on my shoulder.
"Shh..it's alright. Gabby is...taken care of." He spoke grimly.
Darren is comforting me? What the heck?
"Am I in a parallel universe?" I whispered to myself.
Darren chuckled. I guess he heard me.
"Why would you say that?" He asked.
I guess he didn't realize he was actually being nice to me.
"You're...you're being nice to me." I replied.
Is this a dream? Maybe I didn't drown. Maybe Evelyn will be next to me and-
Evelyn!
"Is Eve okay?" I asked.
"Yeah... Noah hasn't left her sight. She woke you know. Asked for you too. Her face dropped when she saw you though." He half smiled.
I breathed, happy she was okay.
Is it weird that I don't despise Darren right now?
"Thanks for..saving me." I said, gratefully.
If he wasn't there, I don't know what I would have done.
"I heard screaming. I just knew it was you. I ran to the ocean and I saw Gabby drowning you and." He paused, eyes filled with grief and rage. "I wanted to kill Gabby first off, for trying to kill someone so..so.." He searched for a word.
"It's okay, I understand. I just thought you hated me or something." I laughed
Darren just shook his head. "You were such a great leader. I guess I was jealous that you picked up on everything so fast."
I looked up at him. "What are we going to do now? Today's the day we are getting picked up. And assuming Gabby's dead...what do we say?" I asked.
Darren looked at me. "It's okay. This competition is to test survival."
I still cannot believe this. Gabby tried to freaking kill me!
"We have to take the government down somehow. Maybe we can find more teens and-" I started.
"KIERA!" Noah shouted, running and tackling me into a hug.
"Hi Noah." I laughed
He looked at my face. "I can't believe Gabby did that! I'm so glad your okay!" He rambled.
I just laughed again. Noah will be Noah.
I then asked the question I've been wanting to ask for ages.
"How's Eve?" I asked.
Both guys stared at me. "She's much better now. A few scrapes, but I know she wants to see you."Noah replied.
I couldn't wait any longer. I shot up and attempted to walk.
Well apparently my legs had other plans, for I collapsed into Darren's arms.
Awkward!
I blushed, "I guess she could come to me?"
Darren just laid me down. "Yeah, your still a bit weak, don't worry. Evelyn!" He shouted.
I rose my head to see Evelyn slowly walk towards us. She ran up to me and gave me a hug.
"Oh my gosh Kiera! I am so sorry! I can't believe I trusted her!" Evelyn started to sob.
I put my arms on her shoulders to comfort her.
"It's okay Eve. I'm happy you're okay!" I said to her.
It was true. Gabby did try to kill her first. Seeing her alive was like a miracle.
Now all that was left was taking down the government, but that's a different story.
A couple of hours passed.
The time was spent talking and laughing, and having fun. I was glad things were starting to let up.
If you wanted to know, I also saw Eve kiss Noah on the check. Remind me to tease her later.
Anyway, Darren had his arm slung around me, laughing at one of Noah's jokes.
To be honest, Darren was a comforting person. I never thought I'd say that in my life.
The government planes were supposed to arrive soon, meaning we were all going to go home.
"Guys," I spoke. "When we get home, we have to do something. I mean, we don't even know what we're arriving at."
Evelyn nodded her head. "If they can kill innocent people, they can kill us. And trick us too." She mumbled the last part.
"As long as we stick together, everything will be okay." Noah spoke.
And at last, I heard the sound of a plane engine. I will seriously never forget my time spent on the island.
I've made three new friends, and an enemy. And I'm not including the monkey
But hey, I learned new skills. Even if it took the government to bring them out.
A guy in a suit mumbled something into a walkie talkie.
"All clear, come with me." He spoke to us.
We all lined up, ready to go home.
He looked at each one of us carefully, and told us to board the plane.
As he was checking off the list, he named Gabby.
"Where is Gabby Smith?" He asked.
This time Darren spoke. "Uh, Sir, she died in her sleep. We think it was food poisoning." He lied.
I jumped for joy inside when the guard bought it.
Boarding the plan, I couldn't help but feel mixed emotions.
I was leaving the Island, the place I had grown to love. Yet I had no clue what I was expecting when I returned.
Getting on the plane, I sat next to Evelyn and fastened my seatbelt.
I stared out of the window, spying the camp I called home for a month.
"Bye, Island." I murmured.
"Bye." Evelyn murmured.
And with that, we took off
We were finally going home.
