Mikasa stepped out of class into the fresh breezy autumn air. It was the beginning of college and it had a whole new atmosphere than in grade and high school. She felt more responsibility being pushed onto her stack, but freedom was also awaiting.
As she stepped out, she was feeling cold despite having a sweater, so she set off towards the campus's café where they would sell hot drinks and other relaxing treats. A steamy cup of coffee and a blueberry muffin would hit the spot right now after class had ended. She could finish her story in meantime as well, before her next class.
The café was greeted with preppy college students, but it seemed like high school to Mikasa. Although she knew some of the people were probably older than her, they chattered and fooled around as if they were in the same noisy class she had been in, in her senior year.
None of the people from Mikasa's high school came to Rose University, although she heard that one student probably applied late into his/her high school year. She'd just have to make some new friends. Welcome to college. A fresh, new start!
Mikasa ordered a medium hot coffee and a muffin, tipping the cashier two dollars for the service, and made her way into a lonely corner where she could work in peace. Although she could still hear the bustle and chatter of the students, it didn't bother her much.
She plugged in headphones and played some nice jazzy music while she typed away at her MacBook and shuffled through her outline pages.
It felt and if she were in Barnes and Noble in the Starbucks with the jazz, coffee, and book writing. She felt like those famous authors who started writing their hit books in a small unnoticed café.
She smiled every time she thought about it.
She took a sip of her cooling coffee when she felt a small tap on her shoulder. Somehow feeling that anonymous hand was familiar yet she couldn't exactly pin point it. She unplugged one of her earphones and whipped her head around to meet her mysterious yet familiar tapper.
"Hey, Mika!"
It was a boy. A boy with pretty green eyes, chocolate brown hair, and a wide toothy grin spread across his face. Mikasa's gray eyes widened knowing it was her freshman year, long lost friend Eren Jaeger.
Mikasa was at silence and in thought.
No! Maybe a doppelganger! she thought. But how did he know her little nickname? No doubt it was him.
The girl snapped back to reality and cleared her throat. "Eren..." She hadn't had anything to say after been apart for so long, but there was so much she wanted to tell and ask him.
Mikasa moved away for family problems after her freshman year of high school back in Shiganshina, and she was pretty close to Eren that year.
She was an isolated girl going through her phases. She always carried around a tiny notebook where she'd write stories based on what she's seen or heard and write poems about life (as she was going through her phases).
One day, some rude clique decided to throw her book in the fountain, calling the help of Eren. Although she had thanked him and simply walked away after retrieving the note, he kept pestering her until it became a normal thing. They wound up as best friends along with a blonde coconut head named Armin until the trio had broken up. Armin got the chance to study abroad in Germany while Mikasa moved away, leaving Eren all alone.
"Ah! You do remember me! May I mention that you got cuter?" Eren chattered loudly. He was known for being the class clown with a very positive attitude, but sometimes he'd go off on his short temper.
She blushed at his statement and to Eren's amusement he chuckled taking a seat next to her. So much for my little quiet table... Mikasa thought sadly, but hadn't shown it.
"Is this a new story?" He asked scrolling through her draft. Mikasa nodded folding her hands on her lap, not knowing what to do.
"You're so quiet now and not to mention, very pretty," Eren teased. He rested his cheek on his hand, admiring her good looks. He had to admit she was actually beautiful although he was only teasing.
The situation was too awkward.
Thankfully, a short guy with a buzz cut came by calling for Eren to return to the group. The group was mostly made up of guys, but there were a couple of girls. Mikasa has seen them back in high school, but she never talked to them.
"Well, bye Mika. I'll see you tomorrow here, alright?" Mikasa nodded slowly and unconsiously. Eren gave her a thumbs up and got up from his seat, heading towards the group, giving them all a special handshake.
Mikasa hadn't known why, but her heart hammered in her chest so rapidly from Eren's words. "I'll see you tomorrow here, aright?"
She watched as the group walked out of the door, keeping her eyes especially on Eren who seemed to be real friendly with a little blonde girl. The girl had icy blue eyes, a hooked nose, and she was obviously trying to flirt with her Eren!
Mikasa covered her cheeks in inward embarrassment from her thoughts, but she knew for one thing. That girl was Annie Leonhardt, one of the clique girls.
Annie especially despised Mikasa, even after Eren chased her and the rest of her ugly overly makeuped friends. She'd always get the occasional icy glare from her and the monthly beat up that she'd never told Armin or Eren about.
Mikasa watched as her foe, faked laughed and clutched onto Eren's arm. As they "happily" walked out the door, Mikasa could swear she saw the icy stare plastered all over her fake face, directed at Mikasa herself.

"Eren you're so funny," Annie cooed, leaning her head onto his arm. She thought Eren "-totally has a thing for me!" She told one of her popular friends.
For the past few months she had been hanging out with Eren's gang only to get to Eren. Eren doesn't seem to notice that she's trying to flirt, however.
"I know I am," Eren said, full of pride.
"Oi, oi, Eren!" Reiner and Connie both pulled him away from Annie. All of the members in their group knew Annie's intention of suddenly joining their group, but they hadn't really recruited her as a new member. They hadn't wanted to, to be honest.
"Just who was that hot chick you were just checking out?" They simultaneously shouted in Eren's ear.
Eren laughed, wrapping his own arms around their shoulders. "That, my dudes, is the beautiful Mikasa. She went to our school in our first year. Don't you remember that girl I always hung around?"
Connie and Reiner's mouths hung open and they both looked at each other, "Her?!" They both exclaimed.
"She got so much hotter," Connie drooled causing Sasha to whack him with a baguette. Everyone knew Sasha and Connie were very friendly with one another.
Eren frowned, pulling away from the two. "Mika was always pretty and hot, though," he crossed his arms.
"Nah we were just surprised because she was always so dark and scary in class," Bertholdt shivered in the back although he was not apart of the conversation. Poor Bert was a huge guy, but he wasn't the flashy type... at least he tried.
Just then, Eren remembered he had to go to class. "Shoot! I have class in a minute! Catch you guys later!" Everyone greeted him "goodbye" and he ran around the corner to class.
Both Eren and Mikasa's eyes met as he zoomed by and she gave him a small smile blushing with a nod. Eren smiled back. "Professor Levi is gonna kill me!" He shouted scaring away a few pigeons.
