I'm lucky Marzia was with me.

"Sweatshirt." Mariza spoke taking clothing out of a suitcase. I turned to see her toss it over to me.

"Thanks." I spoke, carefully putting the thick wool sweater over my head. I didn't think putting a sweater on with one arm would of been that hard. "Have you found any food?" I asked.

"A little yeah, I found a couple bags of something."

"Something?" I asked.

"I think they are chips."

"Okay, chips are better then noting." I spoke with a continuous straight face.

We had been looking through bags for like an hour, I wasn't completely sure of time. The thing is not everyone had packed food.

Of course that wasn't too surprising, I guess people didn't assume the plane were to crash.

"I found a sandwich." Marzia smiled.

"Awesome."

I watched as she continued to dig through that bag.

"This one is packed with food." For the first time I saw her smile. I hate knowing that the only reason she is smiling is because she believes she won't die soon. She had opened a gold mine, we might not starve for at least a couple days.

I'm already thinking about starvation.

Crashing on to an empty island really puts your needs into view. Food, water, human contact, and hopefully something to tell people where we are.

I hadn't thought about this kind of thing before. I could've been prepared for something like this. Of course it isn't the best idea to imagine the plane you're on crashing, but maybe it's okay to be prepared.

Just in case.

_____

"So," Marzia started lazily, "did you know anyone on the plane?"

I looked up from the flickering fire. The question took me by surprise, we had been laying by the fire completely silent. Though I think we were both still trying to understand the crash.

"No, did you?" I asked.

I could see her mood changed slightly before she nodded. "Yes."

"You did?" I expression held sympathy and though I didn't mean to show it, horror.

"Yeah, I knew one person." I could hear her voice crack as she continued to speak. "Um, my boyfriend, Felix."

I wanted to ask more about it but I couldn't seem to make the right words. "Was he, sitting next to you?" Seemed to be the only thing I could say.

"No. We bought our tickets late." She shook her head. "I can hardly believe  that we felt lucky to get on the flight." I could see she was making a joke but even for her it was hard to laugh with tears running down her face.

"Hey." I crawled around the fire to get closer to her. "Hey," I looked at her red face, "you don't know what happened to most of the plane, okay?" I pointed to the forest. "For all we know Felix is alive, and he is waiting for you." I looked her dead in the eye. "We don't know yet, we will find out tomorrow."

She continued to look down as she nodded slightly. I guess we weren't thinking of the same thing, Marzia was quiet for a different reason.

"We survived." She spoke quietly. "Maybe he did." She looked down into the fire as more tears spilled from her eyes.

I'm surprised she was able to keep it in for this long.

_______

My eyes felt tired as I placed more twigs into the dying fire. I had gotten barely any sleep. I don't know what was keeping me up, the fear of freezing, getting eaten by some unknown animal, the pain from my cut open hand, or the pain from my back.

It didn't matter what was keeping me up I had to stay up I promised Marzia that I'd keep the fire going while she took a nap. I was happy to see that she was able to get some sort of sleep, it may have been full of nightmares but at least she was sleeping.

My eyes may have felt tired but my mind was not. I had so much to think about and I didn't know if that made me want to cry or stay strong.

I just kept wondering if I would see my family again. I know they aren't worried right now but I don't want them to be when they find out. I wish I could tell them I was fine.

I'm alive at least.

For all I know there are more than plane crash victims on this island. There is a lot of hope for me, unlike the other half of the people on that damned plane.

I survived a plane crash and I get to tell the story.

In thinking all of this I just wanted to get up and walk around this island. Maybe it isn't really an island, maybe it's just a beach. Maybe people are looking for us right now, someone probably saw us right?

I hope my mind is right to an extent. I don't like the parts of my mind that think I won't ever get back home.

Damn this planet is big.

I wonder how far away I am from my family right now. Tomorrow they'll find out I won't be home, instead of just finding out my flight was delayed they'll find out my flight had crashed.

Dad's going to cry.

I need to get to a phone before they hear about what happened.

I don't want Dad to cry.

I sighed and laid down in the cold sand. It felt as if I was being embraced by it, I wanted to just sink into it calmly.

I want to be home.
