On her coffee break, Maggie felt her phone vibrate. Of course she knows it's Alex because nobody knows her schedule like her girlfriend.
'Mags, I won't be able to pick you up today. J'onn wants me to train again. It sucks, I know it's Grey's Anatomy night. I'm sorry. Don't wait up for me. Okay?'
Maggie sighs at that, the last time Alex told her not to wait up is when she got kidnapped and almost died. Maggie shook her head to take her mind of the image of Alex floating in the water.
'Okay. Promise me you'll come home, Danvers.'
Maggie replied immediately as she finished the last of her coffee.'I promise.' Alex replied.
...
Alex whined as J'onn asked her to stay up late since he think Alex has gone soft.
"I'm strong and capable, J'onn." Alex argued, crossing her arms on her chest and frowning at her father figure.
J'onn mimics her stance and smiled. "Your fears, Alex. We are dealing with your fears tonight."
Alex stood straight, she can still remember the last simulation she was in. How her biggest fears shook her to the core.
"J'onn." Alex whispered remembering how many more people are in her life now, adding more to her fears.
Maggie. She thought.
"It's protocol, Alex. I'm sorry." Alex nodded at him and walked away. Mentally preparing herself for what's to come. Mumbling 'I have to be fully aware that it is a simulation.'
...
After Maggie's shift she decided to hangout at the dive bar. Relax her nerves a little, when she bumped in to Winn and James.
"Hey, Sawyer!" Winn calls out.
"Hey." She greets and clinked their beer bottles.
"I heard J'onn made Alex stay." James said.
"Yeah, something about simulation thing. It's protocol, I'm scheduled for tomorrow." Winn sighed.
"That bad, huh?" James asked.
"It's terrifying. I saw Kara after that sim. She's terrified, man." He said then turned to Maggie who's eyes grew bigger, Winn clapped Maggie shoulder for comfort. "Don't worry, Maggie. Alex is strong! Stronger than any of us, she can take it!"
Maggie nodded in agreement, excused herself, out of the dive bar and on to her bike. Moving like a maniac in between cars just to get to the DEO real fast.
"Officer Sawyer." One of the agent greets, they are so used to seeing Maggie in that building.
"Vasquez!" Maggie calls out, ignoring the agent who greeted her.
"Yeah?" Vasquez turned from her swivel chair. "What's up?"
"Can I see Alex?" Maggie asked, voice laced with desperation. Vasquez nodded and lead her to a double doored room. That's easier than Maggie thought, she's so ready to bash someone on the wall if somebody stopped her from seeing Alex.
"Inside. She can't hear you though but J'onn can explain the rest." Vasquez said, gesturing to the doors.
"Thank you." She replied as she made her way in.
Maggie saw J'onn standing over a set of monitors and controls while Alex is strapped in set of wires inside a glass panel, wearing only her pants and a muscle tee.
"What the hell, J'onn?!" Maggie said, while pointing towards the unconscious Alex.
"It's a sim, Maggie. This is how we deal with fears. Those straps will help her move through the environment." J'onn points toward one of the screen where Alex is inside an aquarium filling with water, trying to stay calm.
